Yes. Of course if it's sloppily applied, then it's less effective as a tool. That's not the imperative -- the imperative is to use it well. If you phrase your sentence exactly opposite, you realize that we're agreeing -- if the spoiler tag is applied well, then it becomes more effective as a tool. Which is what I'm asking.
When it's used well, it seems fine to me. (cf. Dan's posts, for example -- completely readable).

You're right -- we're repeating ourselves at this point. The difference is, you're the one "breaking the rules", so if you continue to be difficult about not using spoiler tags appropriately, then I'm in a small position to do something about it. Spoilering movies for others == being an asshat, our one rule.
EDIT: Not that you've really been difficult so far -- it was one little edit, and I've already been made clear that it, in itself, did not spoiler the movie. And discussing spoilering does not constitute being difficult either. I mean, you are being difficult, but not
asshat difficult. Just whiny child difficult.
EDIT: And yeah, when my patience gets tested, I'm not a saint. Go figure.
