Did you even look at the drawing I made?

Nah, I've managed nice concave joints before. Not intentionally though, more cos I can't solder for shit and have never had a decent Iron. However, if you ever need your circuits Brazed, I'm your man

You've made normal looking concave joints with the leads cut flush to the solder pad before soldering?

WTF would you cut them flush before soldering?

I only said it several times and even posted a DRAWING detailing it.

I think mine was just getting sucked into the hole because the wire wasn't getting heated enough. I would imagine this was one of those 'cold' joints.
I can't solder well at all. I should really get someone to show me how to do it properly. When you two finish arguing is there a good place that shows how to solder properly with circuit boards etc?

OK seriously guys...
!!!I can vouch for both of your solder joints. Both of you know what the hell you're doing...no question! I will say that if Norm Abrams himself questioned a wood joint I made that I knew to be solid, I'd be somewhat annoyed. On the other hand knowing Marc, I know he didn't set out to do that.

The flush cutting I learned from Jan Meier a long time ago, for making the solder joint low profile in certain purposes. Aside from the other reason already explained before (which you didn't read), it makes it easier to put the resistors that had to be mounted on the bottom, because they can be centered over the joints rather than having to be offset because the lead is sticking up in the middle. Makes it easier for me to avoid bridges when doing the resistors like that. Not necessary for the rest (aside from reason mentioned in earlier post), but it doesn't hurt anything because the main connection is with the plated through-hole, and there is also a "normal" joint on the component side of the board.
The flat joints looked more like an accidental bit of solder plugging the hole, rather than an actual joint. The dome looks better to me, and I know it is an actual joint I made and not where I accidentally smeared some solder over a hole. It also has no effect on performance (the joint would be 100% good even if the solder was flat, and it causes no harm with the dome), just appearance, so why does it freak you out so much?
