yamazaki 12yo. that last bottle i had, almost 2 years ago, must have been off, because this is just a tremendously flavorful, delicious whisky.

I like the Yamazaki, and I also enjoyed this blend that somebody brought back from Tokyo (although the pic is a mini):

i haven't had any other Suntory brands but Yamazaki. i wish i could get a bottle of Yoichi 10yo around here.

Last weekend I had a drink called an "Irish Car Bomb" - a mixed shot of Jameson's and Bailey's dropped into a half-glass of Guinness. Yum.
What kind of "office" do you work in? If you have some sulphuric acid lying around as well, you could make guncotton...

irish car bombs are horrid.
i'm the IT manager of a large university molecular genetics department, there is all kinds of stuff floating around.

Well, I had the Irish Car Bomb after a bottle and a half of wine, so I didn't really taste much
We do a combo of molecular biology and chemistry in our lab, so we've got some of the strong stuff (nitric, sulphric, hydrofluoric, which is the worst). My personal favourite was some tritium-loaded water that the previous occupants of the lab had "forgotten" to dispose of when they left... yum.

we have an anthrax lab, and a cocaine room.

All I know is that one room in the basement has a giant trough running around the edge of the room, and the floor is bare concrete. I've seen undergrads go in that room... and not come out.![]()

must be a portal to my basement. that would explain the bewildered people who show up from time to time.

I was enjoying some Glenlivet but I've cut myself off. My roommate likes to go grocery shopping at 9AM on Sundays for some odd reason, and I'd rather get a ride from him than deal with snow/buses/cold.

9am? no thanks.

a bit more Bowmore. i'm usually not a huge fan of Bowmore, tends to be a bit inconsistent in my experience, but this particular bottle of 12 is quite, quite nice.

From what I've read, the Kistler Vineyard is the better of the two, I'd like to hear what you think of it.
My wife and I liked the Sonoma very much. Nice fruit, but also pretty high acidity. A bit more assertive than other pinots I have had recently. Mellowed a bit after stretching its legs. Not a bordeaux drinker's pinot, which is why my dad doesn't like it. However, I like it fruity, so I found it very appealing. Reminded me of a cross between a shiraz and a young Oregon pinot.
Overall, I recommend it. As for the $$, hard to say as I got it for free. But I would probably not buy a case of the Sonoma. A couple of bottles would be enough.

just finished my Patron. i like good tequila an awful lot. i find there is definitely significantly less variation between the better brands than with other spirits, though.
