Ridiculous. I lost whatever program gave me a nice little headphone icon on my status bar, and th new Audio/Midi layout is not entirely to my liking as of yet. Time shall tell, but it's identical (and perfect) to my ears.

Better yet, run Audio DiffMaker and let us know the results

Forgive me if I'm missing something here, but isn't that Windows-only?

Yes it is. But its role is the capturing/differencing, rather than the output generated from the mac.

This would only be an issue, if you don't have access to a windows based system or a VM to run windows in.

Word. I'm pickin' up what you're puttin' down. I'm going to set that rig up, actually -- sounds like fun.

My family pack of Snow Leopard showed up in the mail today* and I just installed it on my Macbook Pro. Yippee! It seems to be a little faster and I was very happy to get back 14GB of hard drive space. I have been having a lot of problems with Mail not starting properly (i.e. spinning ball of death) when I have a network connection and I am really hoping this will solve that problem. Seems like the added "keyboard viewer" at the top is some indication that a tablet is in the near future.

*Actually it seems that I accidentally bought 2 family packs. Now I need to buy 8 more used Macs to install it on.

shellylh, let us know your Mail upgrade experience. If continued Mail slowness, I'll probably finally jump to Fluid and webapps (mostly Gmail), when I upgrade, but would be nice to know Mail is still an option.

I've had Snow Leopard for two days on my 2007 MacBook, runs perfectly fine and I have not encountered any problems so far. I have yet to install all of my usual apps, so I don't know if everything will work, but I notice an appreciable improvement in speed for all the Apple built-in applications, most notably Finder, Spotlight and Preview. The bootup time is also faster, but my computer is pretty much always open so it doesn't change anything for me. I think it's worth 29$, even though the improvements are not earth shattering, and we might appreciate it more in the future.

Will do. I haven't had any problems with Mail *yet* but it has only been one day.

Try installing soundsource from rogueamoeba on 10.6 and see if that works. They say 2.5 works: Rogue Amoeba | Freebies: Free software for Mac OS X

I've been using the new Mail and it seems quite a bit quicker to me. I didn't upgrade the old version though, this was a fresh install. All my mail is on a remote IMAP server so I just re-added the account and was back up and running.

Does anyone know if it's possible to connect a Sharepoint calendar to iCal? It picks up all my regular exchange calendars, but it'd be really optimal if I don't have to manually update events for the sharepoint calendars.

Depends on how you roll. Far less necessary than on Windows IMO for speed regains, etc., but I use the opportunity to clean off unused files.

Only concern, besides time and hassle, is what apps you had with your original disc (GarageBand, iMovie, etc.), you won't on the Snow Leopard only one.

Just updated the home iMac to 10.6. No problems at all. Next, the Mac mini.

i hate snow leopard. i haven't used it yet, but it has delayed the 13" MBP i ordered at work last week. why they couldn't just have included an upgrade disk in the box (like they did when leopard came out and they were still shipping machines with tiger installed) i don't know. that machine was approved essentially as a thank you for me having to put up with shit from people i shouldn't have to put up with shit from, and want now!
