Seriously, I never thought I would say that, but I think the OII is a pretty good deal for the price.
I see a lot of people on H-F rolling dynamic cans in the 300-500$ range and never being satisfied. They lose money in the process and end up buying different cans for different purposes. If they want to buy the really high-end dynamic cans (K1000, HP-2, L3000, R10, HE90...), they have to pay the same price or more than a used pair of OII. Sure, the electrostatic amps cost a lot of money, but the good dynamic amps also cost a lot. It may not be the same for everyone, but with the OII, I don't feel the need anymore to buy another pair of headphones. It covers all the genres of music that I listen very well, it sounds realistic (for headphones), it's incredibly detailed, it's comfortable and it scales well with good equipment. I have not heard the R10, HE90, and L3000, but at the prohibitive prices they sell, I'm not interested. Anyway, all that to say that the OII rocks.

I've had mine for a few weeks now. Using an SRD-7 Pro out of a Dared VP-20, and it works quite well actually. Not excessively bassy or sleepy at all, quite vivid sounding if anything.

I still can't afford an O2, one day though, one day
![]() I can't complain, my current 'stat collection is plenty awesome for my needs and is still the best I've heard to date. I now have what I consider four of the best phones on the planet. I haven't heard the O2 yest so I'm lucky to not miss them. Having listened to some of the best regarded dynamics I can safely say I think my 'stats are way better than any of them.

Semggy ECR-500 Slambda (sigma/lambda hybrid) K1000 < not a 'stat but the best dynamic I've heard. All four are the very top of the pile for me.

Congrats Todd. One day I have to listen to the OII, but I'm happy right now.
Have fun with your new toys

The O2 + KGSS was what made me fall into the electrostatic money-pit last summer. I didn't realize O2 prices were falling in anticipation of the Mk2 launch in Dec. 2007, and bid too much for a used pair. Then, I needed an amp and was lucky enough to find a used KGSS listed for sale.
I don't have the KGSS anymore, but I would say the O2 + KGSS combination is probably the best deal at a "not-so-insane" price point. I think it is equal to or better than an equivalent dynamic setup, such as HD650 + Zana Deux or W5000 + Zana Deux. Hmm, actually the W5000+ZD versus the O2+KGSS would be a tough choice. I also think the O2 itself is actually priced very reasonably, especially compared to many discontinued dynamics or the HE90. |

It's nice to the see the old warhorse get the respect that it deserves. I'm using the SR-? mostly now as I'm too scared to plug in the SR-007A...
If that midrange "honk" wasn't due to the new tube in the APL then I might have to try and pull a MarkL on the new SR-007's... Quote:
