Wait...Scarlet Johansson was in The Spirit? I might need to see that...
Me: Slumdog Millionaire -- liked it even better the second time around. Top 10 of last year, methinks.

Very good documentary on homeless people living in abandoned sections of the NYC subway.
Dark Days (2000)
More sophmoric, gross out humor with gratuitous nudity and (simulated?) drug use. The first one was better.

Meh. It's a biopic, even if fictional. I've come to the conclusion that, for the most part, biopic's don't interest me. Slumdog Millionaire being an exception, because they managed to wind a fairly exciting story into it, thus rendering my main criticism of biopics moot (that they don't have a story, per se). Which is what I watched last night, if I haven't mentioned it already.
Today: Up 3-D. Awesome. My friend is already becoming jaded about 3D, though -- he didn't think it was that spectacular of a 3-D movie.
Can't wait for fucking Toy Story 3.

Up.
Pixar does Miyazaki and doesn't quite pull it off, but still makes a quality film. Miyazaki can take a whimsical and surreal tale and make it real and believable, while this was just surreal and somewhat schitzophrenic. But it was still enjoyable, and definitely a quality production through and through - with some heavy-handed moralizing as ballast weighing things down, but hey, this is Pixar.
I actually didn't notice that it was Miyazaki-lite, or whatever you want to call it, but now that you mention it...a little...I guess...I see it...
I laughed pretty hard through most of the first 1/3 or 1/2 of the film. I laughed particularly hard at the introduction of Alpha, to the point where I'm pretty sure I missed some jokes in there.

did anyone else's theater emit a collective "awwww" at the scene with the porch and Dug?
a great movie
This weekend:
Vicki Christina Barcelona. Started out with my computer's audio card deciding that the Blu-Ray's 3.0 PCM stream was unacceptable. It wanted to put the dialog in the left rear channel, and wouldn't downmix to 2 channels. I finally had to rewire the left surround to the center....Actual movie was ok. If I had to hear one more ridiculous metaphor for love I was going to puke, but I can watch Scarlett in justabout anything.
The Visitor. I'd heard good things and like Richard Jenkins. It was a well played drama until the political messages got too preachy, even when I basically agree with the politics.
The Weather Underground. Really interesting documentary on many levels, even if I abhor the politics of its' subjects.
Hangover. I thought the movie was funny. Definitely need to plan a trip to Vegas with my boys,.
He who laughs last thinks slowest.
Up!
Awesome movie
Hangover -- I think my expectations were just right for this movie, so I liked it surprisingly well.
Sunshine -- mixed feelings. I really liked the fact that most (all?) of it was hard sci-fi, but disliked the boogeyman aspect of the latter half. But overall, I think I really liked it.

Blood, The Last Vampire - 2/10
Fight scenes got too repetitive, script was terrible, plot was non-existent. Felt like Left4Dead - The Movie.
Lead actress should have stayed in Korea. Greatly preferred My Sassy Girl.
Aw, bummer, I was really looking forward to that movie. Looked like it was going to be movie of the year, to me (besides Brothers Bloom).

Yeah, the trailer looked very interesting indeed. Sigh, what a disappointment. The CGI was terrible too, even the first Matrix bests it.![]()
Just finished watching (and hearing) this:
This is pretty cool. You can watch the disc as a documentary with EDited performances and then watch it as a 16 track live concert from 16 different venues all over the world. I was a college radio DJ when Maiden released their first ALBUM. I'm about the same age as these guys. Got to admire Bruce, the lead singer in a heavy metal band by night and a airline pilot by day at age 51. Not too shabby.

Yep. Most of the hits and only one of the misses, Moonchild and it's so-kay. Haven't really liked any of the new stuff since Fear of The Dark.
PQ is spot on, on the Blu-ray and sound is just good but not great. I think they tried not to do too many over dubs. Bruce's vocal get a little lost in the mix every now and then. Seemed to me when watching the documentary feature, the concert sound was worse than when watching the concert feature. One thing is for sure, they have a huge global fan base. The fans in India, Costa Rica and Columbia are just amazing. Maidenheads to the bone!

Pixar's UP - I was afraid because of the increased Disney involvement, but it was good
