Yesterday, I finished watching Defiance starring Daniel Craig. It was interesting too see a story where the Jews were self-reliant in defending themselves, being aggressors and surviving as opposed to always being portrayed as very docile and needing to be rescued by others ala Schindler's List.
The movie should have been a little longer to tell the story better of Daniel Craig's characters's transformation from ordinary guy to someone who took on the responsibility of caring for more than 1000 people. The narrative just didn't seem to flow as well as it could have and felt jumpy in places.
Performances by Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell were very good. I'd like to see the Wolverine movie just to see Liev Schreiber's performance.

It's not that he's bad, he's just not particularly good -- especially if you're going in with the mind of, "I want to see his performance". In other words, it's not worth seeing it for his performance. Now, yeah, it was kind of bad, too, so my impression of the whole movie is probably colouring things, too.
I mean, there are a lot of actors like that. I've seen some amazing performances out of Sarah Michelle Gellar, but that doesn't mean that I'll see anything she does based on her ability.

Yeah, it's not a art house flick or something vying for critical acclaim, so the acting performance is probably not what's first and foremost.![]()
Exactly.

Transformers 2.
I'd give it a 5/10 as a fan.
The plot wouldn't make sense to people who didn't read the tie-ins and some scenes should've been expanded to make more sense. Should've been a 3 hour movie.![]()

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen -- I went in expecting exactly what I got, so I'm happy. It's basically porn for people who love special effects and things blowing up and shit. The action was much easier to follow than the first one, and I love some of the fight scenes -- especially one of the early ones, in the forest -- the contrast of technology against nature was something I'm not sure I'd seen before. The sound was great, too -- I loved the ringing of the tubes in the first fight.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
excellent book. one of the very few movies that i found better than the book itself. amazing performance by the protagonist. in the same vein as "obsession" books/movies where the protagonist does things that may or may not be socially acceptable (usually not) just to satisfy a curiosity. somewhat like a mad mathematician who spends his entire lifetime in the quest of a proof and then finally gets it. complete disregard to those around him and that of societal norms. even though i dont agree with the actions of the protagonist but they say murderer, i say misunderstood genius without an adequate outlet.
as always, read the book before watching the movie. even if just the movie were watched, it would make for an excellent evening.
I'll take you up on that CJ. I loved that movie.

Brick -- really good movie. $20K potboiler, where all the characters just happen to be in high school.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Dusty pretty much nailed the summary of it. But after so much build-up towards the ending, the ending itself was pretty anti-climax. Those huge Decepticons were bad-ass though.

Very good, I really enjoyed it.
Saw The Taking of Pelham 123 yesterday. I enjoyed it but I am pretty easy to please as far as movies are concerned.
And I watched Back to the Future. For the first time (seriously). Pretty amazing how this "format" was perfected so long ago, reused and rehashed for decades to come.
