In the afternoon, I went out and saw Star Trek -- awesome, loved it. Something old, something new mixed together just right. JJ Abrams should do a Star Wars movie and show Lucas how it's done. The story itself was a little hokey but was passable and entertaining enough.

The casting was fantastic, and Chris Pine was perfect as Kirk. After seeing some of the trailers, I was afraid that he might come off as a one-dimensional cheese head (ala Hayden Christensen).

I am absolutely looking forward to future Star Trek movies (this one has come a long way since the first Star Trek: The Motion Picture), and also looking forward to the home video release for a second viewing.

It's definitely my favorite of the trilogy. Every time I pass the blu-ray version I the store at $80-90, I just chuckle to myself knowing that I paid about $15 for the trilogy on HD-DVD.

Watched Red Cliff part 1 and 2. Based on the book Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Definitely enjoyed my time watching them both.

Eh, Red Cliff part 1 turned me off the movie so badly I couldn't bear to watch part 2. Just watched Let the Right One in, loved it <3

    Traitor.

A bit simplistic but very enjoyable. I really thought it was a Ridley Scott movie, it really did have that style, and so I was surprised to find it was someone else (Jeffrey Nachmanoff). Not a masterpiece but do watch it if you have the chance to.

Yeah, I remember it being hyped all to death, and being kind of disappointed with it when I actually saw it. Although there are some interesting moments (the keytoss was memorable in how important it was made to appear...and yet wasn't).

There was another one around the same time about a housewife who figured out a murder. Similarly meh.

It really is necessary to watch them with each other since the latter picks up right where the first left off. I enjoy the heck out of both of them and can't wait to see where they go from here.

Watched David Mamet's Red Belt again on Netflix instant viewing and damn what a great movie but I am a sucker for his somewhat crazy dialog style.

Synecdoche, New York. What an insane movie, but I expected nothing less from Charlie Kaufman. It's true that he went a bit too far this time, but I was nothing less than intrigued through the entire thing. I think it could have been much better with fewer far-fetched metaphors that bring you out of what really is an interesting little world. I've heard Kaufman referred to as "The pseudo-intellectual's 'intellectual'", which is probably true. Good thing I'm not one of those.

Night before that: Delicatessen. Frenchiest movie ever. Well maybe just this side of Triplets of Belleville. Amazing set and even more amazing when they destroy it. Didn't like the film on much more than a technical level but it was still a good time.

Agreed, and apart from my childhood, when the action, cars and girls were all that was needed to keep my attention, these two films are the best ever Bond films IMO.

I like the more serious overall tone, and less dependence on gadgetry.

Duplicity. Didn't like it. The execution of the plot seemed really hasty and haphazard, also jumped around a lot.

War Photographer. The documentary about James Nachtwey. It's very good if you're interested in such things. I could almost smell the, oh never mind...
