Speaking of Netflix instant viewing... if you've got it check out the biopic on Tom Dowd, recording engineer for Ray Charles, Clapton, The Allman Bros.... and more. Truly a great guy and of course there are lots of interesting stories.

On second thought, just went to find a link and it's been removed from instant viewing. It's worth the rental so here it is anyway: Netflix Online Movie Rentals - Rent DVDs, Classic Films to DVD New Releases

And on another note, does anyone want to join up on Netflix to compare ratings and such? Just don't analyze my 5*'s too much, I rate haphazardly.

Clicking this link will make it so: http://www.netflix.com/BeMyFriend/PCmUDn21eDG7XnmMGK5T

After a second viewing of both Casino Royale and QoS, I personally liked Casino Royale much more.

QoS has the worst villain ever in a Bond movie

Casino Royale (2006) >> every other james bond movie ~= Quantum of Solace

The problem with Quantum of Solace is that they undid everything they did in Casino Royale -- in Casino Royale, they made him human, with faults and foibles, just like everyone else. In Quantum of Solace, they went right back into making him cold and unemotional (oversimplification, but you see my point). Personally, I liked the movie, but Casino Royale was fucking brilliant.

Me: House of Flying Daggers -- first half was excellent, the second dragged on too much. Kind of reminded me of Ikiru in how drastically different the first half was with the second.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans -- meh.

The Gaucho (1926) starring Douglas Fairbanks, with JP#s and blessingx. SF Silent Film Festival opening night. Very cool new print of this movie with live movie accompanying specialist musicians performing a score written especially for them and the festival. Great stuff the Ric suggested.

Stagecoach. John Wayne's breakout film and the start of his working relationship with John Ford. It might be the best western.

I think the point is the character is supposed to be cold and unemotional... The combination of CR & QoS is the story why he's cold and unemotional. As opposed to previous bond films where he was just glib and bordered on uninvolved, as opposed to unemotional. I'm guessing there will continue to be moments where humanity shows through, but Bond is supposed to be a cold-hearted bastard. And now we'll accept it because they've shown us why he has to be.

I liked all the actresses in this one.
    Meryl's portrayal was quite amuzing.

And the movie has high WAF, since she used to be a design assisant too.

Moon -- fucking phenomenal. Pure hard sci-fi, not a single moment of supernatural or psychedelic or spiritual or nothing. Loved it. Top 10 of the year for me.

Hurt Locker -- very good film, exactly what I was expecting -- A+ for tension throughout, C+/B- for story. I was expecting something about as meandering as Jarhead, but it wasn't quite that bad.
