Watched "Watchmen: Director's Cut" last night on Blu-ray. That is one long-ass movie. Was, frankly, too drunk for critical viewing, but did enjoy being able to crank the HT system up to reference level and shake things off the shelves.

Definitely the best racing footage I can ever remember seeing in a movie. Picture quality was superb. Some fairly bad acting in places...but this movie wasn't about the acting, it was about the racing!

While it's not "racing" have you ever seen the original Gone in 60 Seconds? That has such and epic chase in it, it lasts 30 or 40 minutes.

Watchmen extended cut -- I've decided I love this movie, and it is quite possibly the best adaptation of this graphic novel that I could envision. It's not perfect, but it's a hell of a lot closer to perfect than I could have even imagined. It almost perfectly balances the line between being faithful to the original, and cutting it too short. And I actually think the squid's replacement is better than the squid.

Just saw this yesterday. You know, I've never read the graphic novel, and I had a feeling after watching the movie I would have enjoyed it more had I read the graphic novel. Oh well. It was an interesting watch, and I liked how the movie climaxed (it felt realistic, not hollywood, which was unexpected from a "comic book flick"), but for the most part I wasn't really entertained, and didn't feel any real connection to the characters.

Do you eat food? Then see this movie. It delivers a truthful message concisely and without being overly preachy or heavy handed. It was a little preachy or heavy handed. Having said that, I have become so passionate about eating "food" and not "food products" in the past year or so that my diet is almost a religion for me. So my perspective might be skewed.

The end message is hopeful, and a representative from Stonyfield sent the theater a bunch of $1 off coupons. So I ate pineapple and Stonyfield yogurt last night for dessert!

I initially stayed away when it was released because of the really bad reviews, but my sister insisted I borrow her copy. It was hilarious. Not Talladega Nights hilarious, but hilarious nonetheless. The dickhead brother was the best character by far.

Better than the play, both the original and the production we saw here. The characters could be rendered much more subtly on film, says Bonnie. And it was nicely shot says I.

Bonnie notes that the film goes to unnatural lengths to reduce the amount of nudity from what was in the play. She usually notices that when male characters are involved. And she's usually right.

Blood: The Last Vampire -- do you know what? I really liked it. You have to realize that, to me, watching movies is all about the story, and I really liked the underlying story. Yeah, the CGI blood was awful (especially on a theatre size screen) -- did they get that at a discount from the 300 guys? -- but you have to admit that mixing the "waterfall" effect in was rather funny, from a programmer's point of view. And yeah, there were some cheesy lines, but some of them were efficient -- in one line, Luke reveals to Michael (LOL) his motivations and explains his entire character. Another bad: when they re-enacted the airport runway scene, I was like "wait, what?" -- they were obviously just trying to squeeze that in -- by the time they got to the scene, they had rewritten the story so far away from it, that it seemed shoehorned in. The pacing was also enjoyable. Enjoyed the climax (that scream really had the gravitas that it required), hated the ending.

So yeah, if you list the bad things about it, the list will probably be longer than the good things, but then if you weight how important they were to me, then the movie still comes out on top.

Movie of the year? Probably not. A qualified 'B-' ? Yeah, I think so.

I haven't seen it, just found out it existed recently. The credits say it was based on the original OAV by Production I.G., but I suspect some of the stuff was from the series (?), as Sharon is from both.

Could you just run through the underlying story to me? I think I kind of missed it with all the bad things you mentioned distracting me.

Girl vampire-killer named Saya is tricked into wearing a sailor-suit school uniform goes around killing vampires, Blade-style. Befriends human girl. Saves her. Lets her go, human girl gets into more trouble. Saves her again, at price of personal injury. Favor is returned. (This is beginning to sound like a lesbian porno script, but there really isn't any lesbianism in the movie.) Mentions that she's on the hunt for "Onigen", the most vile demon who killed her father, which happens to be a hot asian MILF. Don't read the next part unless you don't plan on ever seeing the movie:

Catches up to Onigen while in a weird hallucinatory "place", finds out she's her mother and has weird daughter-must-kill-me deathwish, kills her anyway. Screams as the weight of the world and hundreds of years of revenge are lifted from her shoulders, and probably from wondering if she'll have to get a real job now. Human girl wakes up back in real world, Saya is nowhere to be found (probably because of that job thing).

Saw "Public Enemies" today. I liked the style, but found the plot a bit dry and straightforward. The characters all felt a bit one-dimensional, too much like reading a history book, rather than watching a movie.

Oh yeah, I have, and that is pretty great. I am just an F1 whore though, have been since I was about 7 years old. There is just something about the vintage F1 footage in Grand Prix that just does it for me in a way that just about no other racing footage could.
