Any good anime from this season?

Haven't watched anime in a while, but I have some travelling ahead of me and would welcome some light-hearted entertainment.

.hack//Liminality has some of the better music in the .hack series. From what I recall, it is a 4 episode OVA that is focused on the world outside of the "The World" and the players who are affected by the game IRL. I'd say watch it if you like .hack//SIGN, and it is pretty short. I think it came bundled with the limited edition/preorder of the PS2 .hack games.

.hack//ROOTS was pretty interesting too for some reason.. not sure why but I guess I just enjoy these weird animes =\

IMO, I think "The World" would make a nice MMORPG

Code Geass R2 is so entertaining, I love it... Sunrise is for sure one of my favourite animation studio. Bones, Kyoto Animation, Sunrise, Geneon <3. I don't like Evagelion as much... I find it overrated.

    This season?

    Amatsuki
    Kurenai
Code Geass R2 (watch Code Geass Season 1 if u didn't)
    Macross
these are a few that I really enjoy this season.

A few I haven't kept up to date are...
Vampire Knight (pretty gothic themed vampire story, slow story)
Kanokon (one episode and I don't think I ever want to watch it again. so boring....)
Wagana something something sama I forgot (something about fox/wolf family thing I forgot)

I hate Kanokon, piece of loli-loving trash no offence to u pedos. I find watching stuff like that a complete waste of time.
    Library War (Toshokan Sensou)
Tower of Duraga or something are 2 series on my list of animes I might check out but I'm not sure yet.

I hope Geass has more seasons, I really enjoy it and Gundam 00 S1 was a failure so I hope S2 will be much better.

    Random top reccomendations:
Ouran High School Host Club - Very nice story, character development and comedy.

Black Lagoon - Best action anime ever. It is some what like Diehard but anime with the main chac swearing in english and saying random things like "Cool as a cucumber." fighting nazis and what now in a crime-filled city in south eastern asia.

Those two I really reccomend, I'll post more if I can think of others. I've watched over 50 series so I can't keep track of what is entertaining. I liked Shakugan no Shana, Zero no Tsukaima, Yakitate Japan, Gundam SEED/SEED D, Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, Mai Hime, Ergo Proxy, .hack//ROOTS, Monster (really different mature anime about some Japanese brilliant/genius surgeon in Germany who saves a victim kid who is actually a mastermind serial killer and then the doctor embarks on a mission to take the life of the "monster" that he has given life to" and lots of other things that I'm not sure if I'm not sure every person might enjoy.

Thanks for the breakdown. I'll have to check out Black Lagoon, that definitely sounds like my cup o' tea.

I've been reading the manga of Monster, didn't realize they made it into an anime, should be interesting.

LOL @ "...u pedos..." -- I know exactly the sort of thing you're talking about. I sometimes like it (Kite, Mezzo Forte), but only when the other things in the movie make it worthwhile.

Kanokon isn't particularly loli though. The main female character Chizuru is almost the complete antithesis of all that is loli and appears to scare the pedos. Kurenai seems more targetted more towards the loli group from what I've seen, but isn't about pushing the boundaries of Japanese TV in the way Kanokon is.

It sure as hell ain't light-hearted, but BLASSREITER is easily the best of this season. I expected much less from GONZO.
The other great one this season is RD (Real Drive) by Shirow Masamune and Production I.G.

Can't say I enjoy Macross F or Geass as much. Kurenai is great, but I don't agree with the last episode.

TBH I didn't really like BLASSREITTER. I watched 3-4 episodes and the quality was great but I don't like that type of anime. What is RD about?

... You just offended me. I fucking hate 4chan so don't associate me with them in any way. Those people are lame lowlife people who post and discuss childporn on their imageboard and you'll never find people who are more rotten and retarded than the 4chan regulars. Forgive me for ranting but I'd hate to be mistakened for one of those retards.

I'm not normally an anime fan, but I saw Appleseed Ex Machina as part of a local anime film festival tonight.

Not content with being just cheesy, it was the whole fondue. Entertaining enough though, and plenty worse ways to spend an evening.....

Watched a few episodes of the first season Code Geass back then. Didn't like it at all. Too much artificial angst and trying too hard to be plot-twisty. Made for kids.

Gave Blassreiter a try, but I have to say I'm not liking it very much so far (episode 7). It's kind of predictable in terms of if things can go bad, they will. Flat characters. Cool fight scenes though.

Blassreiter is average at best, imo. But average is good enough for my dinner viewing, I guess.

Just watched the first 2 episodes of Mushishi.

I'm gobsmacked. Seriously, if this keeps up the quality, it will be one utterly amazing series. It has a tone unlike anything I've seen so far, save perhaps certain parts in various Miyazaki films - the forest scene in Princess Mononoke for instance when they enounter the Deer God for the first time. Just an utterly surreal, mysterious, and yet undeniably logical and realistic - in its own mystical way. It's also nice to see a series that doesn't devalue human life and isn't about girls with unrealistic proportions shooting "bad guys" (Black Lagoon anyone?), that gets old real fast.

Someone did a whole lot of shrooms drawing, writing and plotting this show, methinks.

More to come later when I finish it.

Other shows that impressed me lately were Gankutsuou, which is just plain art that somehow snuck in under the "anime" monicker, and Seirei No Moribito, which is something that I never thought could exist in this day and age - a thoroughly intelligent, mature, realistic, yet understated and not overblown fantasy series. "Poetic" would probably be the best way to describe it. Just thoroughly great. Too bad it's so hard to find.

I was definitely impressed by Mushishi and do plan on watching Gankutsuou, but Seirei no Moribito had me seriously impressed for only the first half. Didn't think they were able to pull off the last half as well. Still a good series. Seems like you might like Kamichu?

Didn't know this thread was here. Hi Mcbob.

pffft @ Karura calling Gundam 00 S1 a failure. 00 was great. I'm waiting for code geass (which we all know isn't the true name) to end. Geass is just like death note..except it hide's the reptition a bit better- well considerably better, but repetitive none the less.
[seems seed lovers hate 00, 00 fans seemed to not have enjoyed seed. Maybe something in the two styles are inherently different, not sure but this has been a common pattern when comparing seed and 00]

--Also, which one is .hack//roots? I remember..trying to watch sign, saw most of it? Maybe finished it, but didn't manage to watch all of the OVA that came shortly after, which seemed related to it. Twilight bracelet one was just a total killer of .hack for me.

Wonder if I'll finish Druaga and Blassreiter..not really compelled to do so. Maybe I'll skim through some Druaga if I get bored, but I've got a book I want to catch up on. Which almost happens never.

I'll have to check out Seirei no Moribito from the rec's here. I've mostly only had drama to hold me by. AMG OVA new set was a pleasant surprise, so was Slayers Rev-pointless as it may be- just something fun about slightly older series coming back.
wow...this was actually really hard for me to figure out... =/

Agreed, Seirei no Moributo was absolutely fantastic. Gave off a similar feeling like watching titles such as "PlanetES" or "Now and Then, Here and There" (can't think of more right now) even if the content is totally unrelated. Mature and uplifting; intelligent, feel good anime.
