Don't know them well enough -- any recommendations on first album to get? I'm thinking 20 Jazz Funk Greats, but that said -- I tend not to like "true" old school industrial -- I'm more into the E.B.M. side of things.

Neubauten being the exception. Although even with them, I prefer their newer stuff. (Which, admittedly, is not E.B.M., but it's not old school industrial any moire, neither.)

So I find it particularly amusing that you asked me about Tangerine Dream so close to our discussion about Skinny Puppy.

So yeah, I like Tangerine Dream. A lot. Favourite albums are Force Majeure and Tangram, but I love that whole "golden age" period (from appox. Ricochet to approx. Risky Business).

I prefer earlier Autechre (pre-random rhythms), but yeah, I have everything from them.

And dig Cabaret Voltaire, too. But I like a particular period from them, because a former bandmate of mine cited them as an influence, and played those three albums a lot. I don't remember the other two, but I do remember The Crackdown.

good tastes. I got 3 tngerine dream albums, none fo the ones u mentioned... i should check those.

    what's your band like.

I used to be in Black Chamber, at the time a heavily E.B.M. sounding outfit, but that was like 10 years ago at this point. I wasn't ever a crucial member of the band, just one of the "revolving cast of live musicians" that is referred to in the history page. In fact, I only ever played one show with them (opening for Sunshine Blind). We split (I left) due to what I like to call "destructive differences" (the opposite of creative differences) -- issues totally outside of the music-making part of things. Which is too bad, because I am still a big fan of their music. Listen to "Cold" and "The Rash" -- both most reflective of the period of the band during my attendance.

Current band is still a work in progress. Aka "vapourware". I really need to get cracking and get some music going -- my vocalist has been much more prolific at writing lyrics than I have been at music, so we're sort of writing backwards. The sound we're going for is a darker, more synthetic Garbage-y/Gary Numan type sound.

What 3 TaDream albums do you have?

in that case, i might just suggest skipping them. 20 Jazz Funk Greats is a fantastic album, if you like TG's style. Heathen Earth, is much more melodic than most of their stuff, and might be a good starting point, though it's still not EBM-like at all (it's from 1980).

I actually have some Chris & Cosey. I should at least get one album by them.
