    Likewise with my K1000

But I haven't given up looking for a good deal on a HP-2. It was a good thing that ebay scam auction for the HP-2 didn't work out for me, some other guy on Headfi bought them and it turned out there were RS-1 drivers inside

RS-1 drivers? probably sounded good, but not as good as the HP-2s. didn't what's his name on head-fi (a moderator, can't remember his handle) have a pair of HP-2s with RS-1 drivers? i love the RS-1s, but HP-1000s they ain't.

btw, jpak, if you do get a pair of HP-1000s, give them a couple weeks before you make your decision on them. at first they will sound dead, but as you get used to them you will hear things you have never heard before. they take getting used to, but they are truly amazing phones. better, in my opinion, from a fairly objective stand point, than a martin-logan prodigy/descent system. they need a lot of current, though.

Yup they were jpelgs. He sold them to the guy on Headfi (his handle was slickrick), slickrick put them up on ebay for $900 BIN. I bought them, he told me he shipped them refused to give me a tracking number. I claimed with paypal got 100% of my money back.

A few months later he relists them on ebay someone on Headfi uses BIN for $1400 (I think) and this time he sends them to the guy. Guy notices the drivers are black and sends them to Grado NY for inspection, Grado says they're RS-1 drivers :/

Don't worry I hang onto most of my OOP headphones once I score a pair. If I did get a HP-2 I'm almost certain I'd get a SHA-1 (damned unreliable as they may be) so I could use it as a preamp as well.

heh, i really want to hear a SHA-1 with HP-2s. the Slam/HP-2 combo is killer, though. the midrange, the midrange, the midrange. i'm a midrange idiot too, and this is just... amazingly good. i love my HP-2s. best $650 i ever spent (thank goodness for deals through friends).

the Grace 901 is very good with the HP-1000s, too (it was designed for use with the HP-1000). it isn't as good as the Slam, though, and it kinda sucks as a DAC (no better than a $300 yamaha universal player, though the yamaha was pretty damn good for the price, so i guess it doesn't really "suck.")

Yup definitely need to hear an HP-2. The only midrange I've been 100% satisfied with is the K1000 and maybe K501, but it has far too many other faults (this is not including the multi thousand $ OOP). Hoping the K340 does it as well.

I will give the Charlotte Gainsbourg album a spin tomorrow, I gotta sleep now.

Thank god tomorrows a snow day! (wheres the dancing guy?)

Their new one is more synthpopish, and I remember their other stuff being more synthpopish, so I think synthpopish, but they have a distinct Deutsch-ness to them that I think will make you think EBM, and they have that classic hammer-on-anvil percussion sound that I associate with EBM, but it's really synthpop.

I still like that one -- they must've been playing that one when I wasn't watching eMpTyV so much.

Pet Sounds is a really awesome rock LP, no doubt, probably one of the very best. Yet Sgt. Pepper seems a tad bit better, but I am totally biased. :P

DCC verison it is not, but where does one find the DCC?
