They're amazing live. Tight as a mosquito's butt. Think Chili Peppers meets Rush meets John Zorn...or think of something else, because I just choked on that one a little bit.Originally Posted by en480c4

Saw Iggy & The Stooges Sunday night at the Congress Theater in Chicago. Ig is in pretty damn good shape for a 60 year old.

I know there's a place you walk where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup; I only feel right on my knees
I spit out like a sewer hole yet I still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now after such a love as this?
MMW acoustic. Wow. Billy Martin played the best drum solo I've ever heard.

Reverend Horton heat in less than two weeks, and I can't wait. The guys are exceptional performers (considering the genre) and they tend to have unique and unexpected supporting acts play with them.
Last show was Propagandhi, I think.
Dinosaur Jr is playing in my small crappy town of olympia washington this month which I'm looking forward to.
I'm a total idiot and everything I say should be viewed in that light.
Holy CRAP. Do you know who's opening. If you say Witch, I'll die.Originally Posted by Chekhonte

It's not witch, I believe it's the band Nudity. I haven't heard witch yet. am I correct in believing that witch is mascis's new band?

yep, and the first album is an excellent effort. He wanted to create a 70's influenced hard rock band in the Doom Metal/Stoner rock vein and, especially, wanted to play drums again. The debut album is highly recommended.
Nice, I'll have to pick that album up. I believe I'll have time to hit the record store today.

Just make sure you listen first. It's certainly a departure from DJ.
Heaven & Hell with Megadeth opening.

B.B. King at Roy Thomson Hall last night. I had to hear the Blues legend again before he passes on.

Random. Had a crappy day at work yesterday, got a call from friends on the way to New Orleans to see Bright Eyes, had extra ticket. I don't even like Bright Eyes, but I decided a lonely drive followed by some live music in a cool city would do me good on a Monday. Two opening bands, don't remember their names, second was okay. I was hoping seeing Connor Oberst live would help me "get it", but the music just doesn't do it for me. He's earnest enough in his performance: he comes across as a touch arrogant and vulnerable at the same time. But Bright Eyes just gives me that feeling that so much contemporary rock music does: that it has all been done before, and better.
In light of my feelings about "new" rock, I've decided to start working on a list of "newer" bands (by "newer" I mean maybe bands that formed as early as the 90s, but maybe didn't "break out" until after the millenium, but this is a loose definition) whose music I actually enjoy. The label "rock" excludes any death/doom metal or electronic/synthpop/ebm/industrial, because there are a lot of bands in these genres making music today who I love.
My list:
LCD Soundsystem
My Morning Jacket
Thats all I've got so far. Maybe White Stripes.

heh, well that brings up another point. I can dig almost any band that can kick out a funky groove that makes asses shake, a la any given "jamband". Everytime BE would start to get in a groove they would end the song, I didn't understand. So they'd groove for like 7-10 seconds then end and everyone cheers. I'm like "what the hell are you cheering for". I didn't want to be a dick because my friends were really enjoying themselves. But damn man, come on, I need to dance and share in the universal groove and all that shit.Originally Posted by grawk
so on the drive home, after listening to some Phil Collins to help me relax, I put on disc two of "the complete jack johnson sessions", and just listened to the drummer, and shit my pants the entire drive home. so awesome.
