Using New Oppo BDP-83 SE as External Dac for MacMini
Girardian replied to Girardian's topic in Home Source Components
Analog outs -- which is why I'm consider upgrading to the SE version of the player. The upgrade doesn't change the HDMI performance. Neither would I -- I'd like to use iTunes, and to use an iPhone as a remote. Thanks for the link to the AA DLNA thread. I need to do some more research on work arounds like this. Ideally, I'd like to minimize conversions if they degrade sound -- but I need to do a lot more reading up and learning about these issues. -
Thanks for the link. Looking forward to additional thoughts posted here.

Minimax DAC with ESS Sabre32 chips
Girardian replied to skullguise's topic in Home Source Components
In looking into the Oppo BDP-83 SE player, I see it has a dedicated stereo output that uses an 8-channel Sabre32 Ultra (ES9016) DAC chipset, stacking 4 DACs for each of the Left and Right channels. The EE unit uses the 9018 chipset. -
Using New Oppo BDP-83 SE as External Dac for MacMini

So if I'm planning to get an external DAC later (for computer audio but could also use this with the OPPO), is the upgrade to the SE version of the OPPO worthwhile, assuming I'd also use the external DAC with the Oppo player? (I listen to movies in two channel on a high end system). -

Using New Oppo BDP-83 SE as External Dac for MacMini
Girardian replied to Girardian's topic in Home Source Components
So this suggests that an external drive (with music on it) would have to be connected directly to the Oppo and could not be connected to a MacMini. I take it there's no other way to use the Oppo as an external DAC for computer audio? I have a projector and any computer based set up will need to be accessible without having to turn on the projector (I was planning to go MacMini in part so that I could use my iPhone as a remote). -
Any other GMA users here? I own Callistos (2nd system) and Calypsos (main system). If anyone here has questions about GMA speakers, drop me a line. I'm in the SF Bay Area and they have (I believe) a dealer now in SF.

Top for an interesting thread as more folks move to digitizing their collections, but want a space conscious way of keeping original CDs + artwork. Any other systems / suggestions?

I have a dedicated circuit and a PS Audio PP Premier. The circuit was very reasonable investment and I've enjoyed the PS Audio in my system. Good power is the core of sound, so any reasonable edge to improve it (dedicated circuit, regenerator, good power cords, components with separate / external power sources, etc.) usually makes an appreciable sonic difference.

Computer audio novice trying to figure out whether an interim set up would work: If I get a MacMini could I use the USB connection on an Oppo BDP-83SE as an external DAC? OPPO BDP-83 Special Edition Blu-ray Disc Player If not, is there another way to use the player as a DAC for computer based audio until I move to an external DAC?

What's the word on the next update to this unit? When will the next version be released? -
Interested to hear further feedback on this. I have the player and am considering the upgrade.
