The change to the new forum software went pretty well. Few things I'd like to point out:

1) Old links don't currently work I ran into some troubles with that. I do believe I can fix it but I didn't want to keep the forums off-line till then.

2) I wasn't able to migrate over user albums (this is hopefully just temporary)

3) Tapatalk is supported and will work, but their website is currently down so I was unable to download the server-side files that I need to for it to work

4) Twitter updates - these won't work for now. If I have time later tonight I'll get it setup.

5) Some Private Messages were not able to be imported, I don't know why but it wasn't enough for me to spend much time looking into it.

Those are the major things I can think of off the top of my head, feel free to PM me or post here with anything else you notice.

This is predominantly a place for friends to discuss music, audio gear, and whatever else tickles our fancy. We are sometimes quite rude, often irreverant, and regularly abusive. Spend some time reading before you start to post. Get familiar with what is going on, and who the various people are. Don't just jump right into the fray.

This is your only warning, but I hope you can participate. There's a lot of good information, and more importantly, good people here.

TLDR version:  The datacenter that the head-case server is located in sustained a power outage on April 4.  When the backup generator kicked on it caught fire and that lead to the fire suppression system (a fucking water based one!) kicking on and causing water damage to equipment.  The head-case server was in the 'more affected' area of the datacenter and as such was offline until early in the morning on April 24.  For further details on the incident you can see here:  https://webnx.com/outage-updates/ 

You may be wondering why during such a long time the site wasn't simply migrated elsewhere, this is a fair question and the answer is simple.  As this is a hobby site the backup process hadn't been properly verified as working in quite a while and the latest verified backup was nearly a year old. 

Migrating the site and loading it from that last verified backup would have meant losing a years worth of content.  This was not a valid option and until I could confirm that the drives in the server were dead I wasn't willing to restore that old of a backup. 

From what I can tell there has been no data loss but I don't currently have a full report as to what if any hardware needed replacing to get the server back online.  Due to that lack of info, I don't trust the server and I wouldn't be surprised if there's some additional downtime due to hardware issues.

The Future

A fresh backup at the time of this post has been taken and moved off-site.  Over the next week or so a new backup process will be put in place and verified.  After that is done it's very likely that the site will be moved to a new hosting provider.  Further details about any move will be provided at the proper time.

Edit:  Server move and forum software update have been completed now.  The search index has to re-index so it'll be a few hours before that's working normally again.

The other major change is that the site is now completely served over HTTPS.  This includes embedded content and images.  For most services it'll automatically pull in from HTTPS url's if the service supports it.  If the content can't be pulled from HTTPS the forum software will download the content and serve it via an internal proxy script.  Main reason for the later is to avoid browsers mixed-content warnings.

I'll update this thread once the work begins to keep everyone updated on the progress of everything.

I'll be moving head-case to a new server tonight at approx. 11pm EST.  I've set aside about a 1 hr time window to do the move but expected downtime is much shorter than that.

EDIT:  Also I've seen some reports of users not being able to post and getting a "post empty" message.  Please try clearing your browser cache or doing a hard refresh (Control + F5 on Windows).
