  1. Indeed! At least for now, the plan is to do a small run of Black Diamonds. I am just investigating some machining issues right now, so hopefully they'll be ready this fall. Work has also started on a DSHA-2, but I haven't even prototyped it yet, so it is probably a winter or spring thing, if it works at all.

  2. http://www.strava.com/activities/85600052 did 3 mountain bike trail loops w/ 10 min rest inbetween. definitely the most miles ive put on that bike at one time. i lost about 80% of the rear brake after the first mile so that was interesting but worked out ok on this trail. due to some technicality in strava it ended up counting my rest prior to the final lap as part of the segment. bleh! otherwise it would have been the fastest loop.

  3. Yup it was me and I'll post some pics. Speaking of which, this just arrived yesterday... This is a super rare, early SR-1. Housing material is completely different from all the later versions and models, it is smaller and the earpads are supposed to be made out of foam like you can see in the early Stax ads. Haven't tried them yet but I need to open them up first. All that rubber is perished as can be seen on this unique plug: Never seen one with screws and the full SATO Parts number on the front. Next to a SR-3 that I know was bought in 1971. Still looks like new though... Not the best picture but the SR-1 is a bit smaller, a whole lot lighter and the housing material flexes a bit. Good news is that the SR-1 housings are still sealed shut so they have never been tampered with. If I had to venture a guess I'd date them from 1960-1962. Condition is awesome for a 50 year old headphone... Also got one of these: The first full size Stax transformer box which debuted in 1965. Completely mint...

  6. The K1000s were the main reason I joined Head-Case a while ago, so I reckon I’d post a summed-up version of what I posted on my blog after selling mine and borrowing my cousin’s AKGs. When I sold them I was really unsatisfied with what I heard as a wrong tonal balance, with extremely harsh mids (very different from Grados), impactful but dry bass and somehow subdued treble response. But now my system has been through a complete overhaul – deepak’s old GS-X, Abrahamsen V6.0, M2Tech HiFace and some fancy power cables and interconnects (I’m not a cable guy at all, but they were just sitting in the living room, so hey...). It’s interesting to see how different it sounds from what I remember. All the aggressiveness is now gone. It’s still not what I’d consider sweet and mellow, but it’s far better now. It all seems better balanced and integrated, with mids going slightly backwards, and bass and treble a bit forward. Bass hits really hard (it’s a bass heavy version BTW), but with surprising texture. The highs, however, which were what I considered to be the Achille’s Heel of the K1000s, for sounding as if they were somehow within the mids, now have their own space in the spectrum. They have presence, extension and a very very good timbre. It really comes to life now, and these headphones finally sound right! It’s very nice to hear how the AKGs can really sing when given a proper system. Thumbs up for the GS-X and the V6.0! Here's a nice picture BTW:
