  1. Dick Hyman Plays Duke Ellington. Direct-to-CD Recording baby! Hyman's solo performances, encoded on the Bösendorfer computer reproducing piano, were played back live for our microphones. For the Direct-to-CD (DCD) editions, the digitized signal was transmitted via microwave to the CD glass master as the music was happening. No recording tape of any kind was used, nor was the digital bitstream corrupted at any stage by copying or editing. The very digits generated at the recording session are engraved on the finished DCD.

  5. Less than a week to go. Went out for a ride yesterday and ended up hooking up with a group ride and it turned out that a bunch of the people are doing this event and even at the pace I'm planning. I guess I'll sort of know some people now

  7. Ric, someone seems to have taken the salesman's quote to heart, and as an elder, got someone else to do all the work (allegedly) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/11096727/German-Playboy-model-Cathy-Schmitz-marries-billionaire-Richard-Lugner.html

  8. Shelly did you end up picking something up? Are having problems with the earlier mentioned daughter's mattress (and unfortunately also its mem foam replacement), so back at shop again this weekend. While there for the heck of it tried some Klufts (and loved their lower line, Aireloom, even more). That was before I saw their price tags (the store only carried the up to $20K mattresses ). http://youtu.be/cz0Eo2aDs_A The Airelooms though are back to semi-Earth-bound McRoskey/Tempur-Pedic prices. They're a hybrid of ten/dozen layers of traditional and contemporary materials and were pretty fantastic. When GF & I are ready to replace our mattress I'm sure a base Aireloom will be in the running. The salesman, a pretty nice guy whose been great dealing with our issues, also confessed his opinion that sex isn't quite the same on memory foam. Or as he put it looking at me "you have to do all the work and the older I get the less I want to do all the work."

  9. My UK iPhone 6 order shows delivery between the 9th and 16th of October. I'll just walk around talking into the empty case until then, Dinny-style.

  10. I have no idea where this should really go... ...Stumbled on this while looking for videos at work. Check the Spotify gag about 30 seconds in. http://landing.newsinc.com/shared/video.html?vcid=26732912&freewheel=91082&sitesection=sunsentinel I think this makes only the second or third time Buzzfeed has made a video that made me smile. So yeah, Buzzfeed sucks. But, you know, a stopped clock, twice a day.......

  12. Now that I'm back on wireless, will go into more length on the King Crimson show yesterday -- it was similar to the Albany show that was reviewed in Rolling Stone in terms of setlist, (if not exactly the same -- I'm actually not familiar with any of the post 1990 work enough to recognize it) and it was outstanding -- I'm not really sure what the drummers were trying to do with Red, but I didn't like it, otherwise the drummers were fantastic. They were the real stars, so it was really cool that they were front and center, and everyone else was back a level. Tony rocked, also (he always does, in my book -- hope he's making good bank on this tour, I heard when he tours Stickmen, they share a van and sometimes even have to sleep in it). Fripp remained in the shadows as always (if not more so than ever). He sure likes his toys, it was like a captain's console on a spaceship over there. Jakko ain't no Greg Lake, but just buy into that early, you'll save yourself some heartache. He actually enunciated Starless more clearly than I've ever heard it before, I think I'll be able to decipher the lyrics now. He certainly did excellently on Letters. And Mel Collins was Mel Collins.

  13. Rock on! Might suggest to him to find out if they're related, though, considering the circumstances... Went to Adventure Aquarium, saw hippos and penguins (my friend took a picture and posted, "I bet the Caps could beat these Pens") and sharks and stingrays and fish and seahorses and jellyfish and even scuba divers were on display. Drove back.
