  3. I follow PRS guitars pretty avidly, so I've already seen that. I'd be afraid to play it or anything with such intricate inlay work, but I otherwise am very admiring of the wood choices and semi-hollowness of that guitar. Have you seen the zombie one? I think I may have found Jeff's guitar. It's also ridiculously expensive, so he should be drawn to it inexhorably... http://briansguitars.com/product/paul-reed-smith-private-stock-custom-24-walking-zombie-1 Oh, and you're playing's fine! Much better'n mine...

  5. Well, the amp works. My playing kind of doesn't. I need to work at sounding better with gain (too many acoustic-only years). But I love the cleans on this amp. They have a more modern sound than the (wonderful) fender cleans that seem more colored. The EQ is fantastic. Someday I am going to set up a stereo rig with maybe a super reverb or something. The stereo rigs on That Pedal Show sound amazing. I made some sloppy 10-20 second (balanced precariously) cellphone videos of the clean channel, some just toggling the pickup selector.

  6. Ok...I had an interesting morning. It isn't every day that one takes apart HE90 drivers. Sorry no picks as I was too freaked out while handling something so delicate and well...fucking unobtainium. These were from the original production run so they needed some cleaning and one driver was imbalanced. Let's discuss how they were made... First of, the actual stators are indeed glass with gold deposits on them. The connections to them couldn't be soldered so they have adapter plates on them which hold the dust covers in place. The diaphragm is held in place with aluminum spacers and they are actually not glued together so access is excellent. Be warned though that there are small plastic spacers all over the fucking place so I'd advise against opening these up. The diaphragms are indeed not gold plated and they have a lot of tension on them. Now for the imbalance, the offending driver had the diaphragms completely fused into one of the stators. It had been this way for a while as the hole pattern of the driver was imprinted onto the plastic film. I slowly peeled them apart and recoated the diaphragm on both sides and now they work perfectly. There was a small hole where the drivers had arced through but it has very little impact on the performance. Small amount of noise from time to time but nothing as bad as an old Lambda Signature. The other driver might need a new coating as well as it seems to have some charge migration issues so that will be easy to sort out.

  9. It depends on the problem and the type of surgery. If your hearing loss is permanent and stable an equalized response earphone could be of some help, although you must be careful on how much gain you apply to some frequencies because you might be risking making your hearing loss worse.

  10. Exactly. And: Heh-heh, yeah, we love that thread over there. He (the photographer, Hunter) has taken to warning us when he won't be posting, so we don't go into withdrawals or riot.

  14. When I was in 8th grade, I was generally listening to whatever was on the radio. Someone loaned me this tape and it profoundly changed my life. Whether for nostalgia reasons, or because I actually think it's good, it remains about my favorite album.

  15. Birgir, if you have a chance, could you please make the dimension measurement? I really wonder if the glass can outperform the PCB. I can make a set of drivers for you to try.

  18. Just a few rides I have done in the past. After death ride tour Colorado I quit cycling. I love the downhill but have always felt i might enjoy the climbing better (especially when I am in the zone). https://www.strava.com/activities/52392823?utm_content=1831823 https://www.strava.com/activities/46393994?utm_content=1831823 https://www.strava.com/activities/54202707?utm_content=1831823 I will say this the century ride I did was probably one of the most mentally taxing things I have ever done. Your mind starts to wander and you find yourself in a strange place. Though it was tough mentally it felt really good to know I completed it.

  19. I was chatting with arnaud via PM about this earlier and, in reference to the likelihood that MrSpeaker's new wave of electrostatic headphones gaining a significant foothold, I said this: "No chance they could. Stax has a huge and loyal user base who doesn't give a crap about/hasn't ever heard of Head-Fi or MrSpeakers who will continue to be loyal customers. Stax will continue to know what they are doing (for the most part ) and continue to make high quality and reasonably priced products." There's really no scenario where another player makes any meaningful inroads in the electrostatic headphone market. It's just too niche, and we're all crazy people.
