Today, my DIY T2 has successfully come to life! After a year on and off working on this amp on my kitchen table, I was able to power up today and get music playing. All 4 batteries are sitting around 743V. The +/- voltages for each channel are surprisingly well balanced, and both L and R sit about +10V offset at power-on and gradually get down to about 2-4V offset at steady state. I measured the heatsink temperature -- looks like it's steady at 124F/51C after about 3 hours continuous burn-in. A shoutout to GeorgeP for enabling this build--one of my good buddies helped me reached out to you about a year ago for the case/amp board/torroid set. Thanks KG, Spritzer, and everyone else who posted all the useful information on every aspect of the amp on this thread. I learned a lot through the process of building this amp! One interesting thing I found while testing the PSU was that when I had both HV toroids hooked up and powered, the combined inrush blew through my 3.15A slow blow fuse (at 120VAC from the wall). I take it that the inrush of the 2x HV toroids (at least on my toroids) are pulling closer, but not quite, to 4A, since I was able to power up one HV toroid with a 2A fuse that I had left over. I have a 5A slow blow in there now, and so far no issues! -Kuen3 points

Actually it does make a difference for me but then again I don't expect any of u guys to believe me either. I was in that camp once too. If you guys ever curious about comparing these USB cables that I have, just come by and I will have the DIY T2, SR009, SR007, and Orpheus to welcome you. Also it didn't cost me any more than $160 to find out and having the Walkman as digital transport really make the comparison pretty easy for me.2 points

For something a little different; "Food For Thought" from the Library of Congress's Recorded Sound Research Center, the National Press Club Luncheon speeches. I've just begun to scratch the surface here but these are from the days when a great speech was just about the best entertainment you could ask for and these curated speeches are fantastic. So, if you're as sick of hearing about the election as I am (already sent in my ballot), give these a listen. Don't miss the Hitchcock! http://www.loc.gov/rr/record/pressclub/1 point

I wasn't sure if the USB cable comment was a serious one or not, so left it alone. Scratched my head, then walked away confused1 point

What? No, not even maybe. Maybe compared to Luke Cage, but pretty much no other show I can think of (certainly not Dollhouse). And it was during (one of?) the conversation(s?) between Bernard and Ford where there was an automaton playing piano in the background (I the fact that they use largely pianos, and a variety of them, even during the opening credits) that I'm not recognizing the song. (wanders off, returns) Ooh, ooh, I was right, it was Debussy: Nice, another callback to "reveries".1 point

The problem is always that you have to be expensive to be taken seriously. That applies to everything we humans do as we always associate a higher price with better performance when we have no actual point of reference. I also think that we've reached the point where manufacturers don't really have to make the call whether they want to sell a few expensive units or a lot more cheaper ones. They can just charge what ever they want and the sheep follow blindly.1 point

Well, as you can tell color matching is hard - as is photographing color differences. Trying to choose between the four swatches here for some grills and having a hard time because the wood looks different in various lighting.. I am leaning towards the far left (towards the window). None really match anyways, so could do black. Oh also, a bunch of these. Pretty amateur but they should look nice enough. I have a mounting scheme I am hatching.1 point

I could have said that just as easily as you did, and suspect that many other people feel the same way about it. It's like any hobby, I guess. There is that initial phase when you're all into it and spending a ton of time on it. In this particular hobby, that involves a lot of listening, experimenting with all sorts of gear, reading, reading, and more reading, and then eventually you start to think you have something to say, so you start posting, and every now and then you argue with others about things that have acquired a heightened sense of importance in your life... and for no particular reason other than that's how you've been spending your time. Then eventually, you lose interest in most of it, and certainly in the need to argue with others about things that really aren't (or shouldn't be) all that important in your life. So if it's headphones, you can say, "I thought they were good, you should give them a listen..." or if it's scotch, "I sure like it, you might want to add it to your list..." and then get on with things that actually do matter. Which, no doubt, is some new hobby that you now think matters, for some reason. At least if you're like most of the rest of us.1 point
