  5. output transformers hifiman has in the past, and continues to make unreliable stuff. if the 300b amp really is direct coupled, he is going to have trouble getting more than 600 vppss without significant amounts of distortion

  8. That is just pure win. Can the powerful amps damage the headphones? Yup but we account for that. Cavalli, Woo Audio and others don't give a shit about this so yeah...people should take care with those. This is pretty much the same BS as when I was laughing at the Jade crackling new out of the box. Fang claimed that the film was supposed to do that as it was coated with nanoparticles (read dust) which was somehow supposed to make it better. The Shangri-La has the same BS so again, nobody with any clue has been involved with the design. The King Sound sets also squeal like there is no tomorrow but they don't charge 50K$ for them either... Seriously, I might setup a Patreon account or something like that for people to donate so I can buy this shit and rip it apart for the world to see.

  11. Funny how he tries to discredit (?) Stax for "sounding like you're in heaven" when they made the DAC Talent that used... guess what? That's right, PCM63s. Has he even heard or does he know anything about pre-bankruptcy Stax? Edit: I would love to see Fang try to get in a fist fight with Birgir.

  14. If you look very closely at the picture, he manufacturer agrees. It's my wife who had to be reckoned with. In fact, if you look at some of the Amazon Q&A for wall outlets this seems to be a popular question "Can these be installed the "right" way"

  16. Here's the while story: After making the declaration that I mentioned previous, Dr. Fang Bian proudly lent the HSL suit to a guy who is a SR-009 user since the beginning. After several days auditioning, the dude reports back: Stax 009 (with the HSL amp) easily sounds a lot of better than the Shangri-la (with the HSL amp). And then Dr Fang Bian became furious, really scared the xxxt out of us. He told us we simply need more listening experiences. Stax doesn't sound like real at all, they sounds like you are in heaven, too Tibet-ish, too clean (note: maybe too Shangri-la). His reference setup is the HSL suit plus a PCM63 DAC cos this setup sounds like real, like the reality, like the sound from the Chicago Concert Hall which he often visits. But at this time already nobody listens to him. According to him: the HSL amp doesn't use output trannies on purpose, and the vol control was based on relays. BTW, T3 coming out in the next year all hail the T3 http://www.fujiya-avic.jp/blog/?p=28326 look at the red words at the end of the page

  17. I've been using the diode tester on my multi-meter (BK 2709B) to check the forward voltage on the LED and transistor. It get's you fairly close to actual currents: current = ( Diode(Vf) - Transistor(be) ) / resistance In fact, when I'm matching transistors for simple current sources I pay more attention to the voltage across the transistor than the hfe (though I match both anyway ).

  18. Obviously, since Stax has been making electrostatic headphones since before Dr. Fang Bian was born, they don't have a clue about, um, er, ah... Dr. Fang Bian (in Emily Litella voice): Never mind. Likely trying to push his new limited voltage output 300B stat amp with 6SN7 drivers. With those tubes, wonder how he got enough voltage gain?

  19. does the original T2 qualify as overpowering? because it runs on +500 and -550v and has more voltage swing than a bhse or any other electrostatic amp, diy or commercial. only exception is the koss esp950 which is designed for its own headphones. And i guess the original jeklin transformer box. now if you have a cavalli piece of shit with no output protection, or a transformer box, then yep you can and will do damage.

  23. It amazes me too, but the Dr. did tell me that fingers heal very fast. The cool thing that I didn't expect is that it seems to have filled out. It doesn't really look like a carrot anymore, because the finger has widened. Weird, but cool. It won't look just like the others, but not nearly as strange as I first thought. Have good feeling all the way down to the tip, too. The nurse says she wished all patients were more like me. It was much harder on her when pulling out the stitches. One had grown over and she was so worried that it was going to hurt. It did hurt, but her, not me. Us gay guys are tougher than you think. No need to wash the thumb in a peroxide/water solution anymore, and only another week for the finger. No need to bag the hand when showering anymore. Yay! IMO everything needs a port for a plug!

  27. Interesting. Effectively engine mounts at the rear of the car that act like a variable shock absorber. That's a lot of technology for an engine mount, but it's pretty cool as well. Looks like Honda has been using it quite a while...they never cease to amaze me. The famous GM LS motors are basically knock-offs of Honda technology. On my car, I went with a motor plate at the rear (racing hard core is plates at both front and rear) and it definitely provides more torsional stability in the front of the car especially at hard launches...early on when I'm really thumping the motor. That means less drama getting the power to the wheels and keeping everything as stable as possible. Cool stuff. HS
