  2. please, don't waste your time. Feng always concluded in local forums that Chinese should support Chinese made products. He think a gang of American born Chinese hate him and posts on the other place are intentionally to attack him and his brand. And because other products like HE1 are super expansive and SRL is even better so the price tag is soooo reasonable.

  3. Thank you, Gents. Sincerely appreciated. I have my fingers crossed for the boy. He is a 17 high school kiddo but truly means well. Off to college later this year which will be our first out the door and a serious adjustment for the family. I wish I had the pleasure of having met many of you in person as I expect my friendly banter is probably lost in translation. I do intend it to be in good humor. The only car I have left with an old school clutch is my little 1978 Datsun 280Z. Just like the one I drove in college except this one only had 4 speeds and my original girl had overdrive (5th gear). I bought it to teach my boys how to drive a synchro. Fortunately my oldest son truly enjoys it. Number two is TBD. He just turned 16. The Challenger used to have a 6 speed Tremec but I couldn't keep it alive with the increases in power. Shame really. HS

  4. I'm having bad thoughts. The focus is in with the dealer for a warranty upholstery repair and they still have black RS sitting there. First offer was willing to give it to me for list and about 5k under my buyout for the ST so basically the same price as a few months ago when I placed an order.... If I can get them down a bit more I'm very tempted.

  7. But..but..it's so much to fun to watch a train wreck like this. Fang is like a small spoiled child that goes completely over the top if things don't go exactly as he wants. I think we need to buy some of his products just to rip them apart and piss him off.

  9. Looks like Fang finally crossed the line, and a lot of the negativity surrounding headphone pricing in general has been heaped onto him, and his attempts to defuse the situation only made things worse. Certainly his awkward English didn't help. I almost feel sorry for the guy - almost, since he's undoubtedly guilty of price gouging, but then so is the whole bloody industry. I think the worse step for the industry would be intentionally compromising their less expensive models so that they don't undercut the performance of their higher-end models. I'm sure manufacturers would like a world in which all product niches are stratified and all good-sounding headphones are really expensive (kind of what the German car industry does). If that happens, and price/performance anomalies like the HD600/650 or KSC75 are discontinued, the hobby will truly be dead to a lot of enthusiasts. Quite frankly, it is that scenario that scares me, not the idea that somewhere out there somebody's making underengineered, underperforming $6k headphones. Maybe it's pointless worrying. This market isn't an oligarchy like the car industry and if somebody discontinues outstanding value headphones, somebody else will see an opportunity. Maybe this current Fang thing is just the market normalizing its concept of value. Maybe these headphones will fail, and so will he. But then I look at some of my posts from 2007 warning of exactly this and think "who the fuck is this idiot I don't want to say I told you so... but I did." In other news, I rather like the L700.

  10. Hifiman RE-2000$ ;-). There you go, the only mistake with the Edition-6 was the unfortunate naming, should have gone by HE-6000$. BTW, HE-9000$ is coming soon at CanJan event near you ! arnaud

  12. Had a jointly prepared meal with Claire's sister and her GF who gave me the Deep Run Roots cookbook, written by the owner of the Chef & the Farmer restaurant. I made the cornpone, collard greens, creamed collard greens and pickled collard stems. Sister in law made Brussels sprouts, apple and pomegranate salad and glazed pork loin over rutabagas and pork belly. Claire made the pecan-chewy pie with chocolate gelato dessert. Great recipes and we marveled that the meal wasn't heavier.

  16. That looks like a tasty way to make it! If you ever wanna go old school, I'd be happy to send you a 5 lb tub of lard (this isn't a joke, I have multiple 5 pound tubs of lard, from back when I did this a lot; it doesn't go bad) for free. Cube the pork, drench it in fresh lime juice and salt, then simmer (keep it below 212) in lard for many hours. Turn it up, for the last hour, to brown. Let cool a bit, and shred. Absorbine and Catcoon can tell you how this recipe is. A 10 pound shoulder can easily be cooked in 5 pounds of lard. You have about 4 pounds of lard left over, which is perfect the next day, to cook an 8 pound pork shoulder. Of course, if you really want to go old school, you'd dig a pit in your yard, put a goat head that has marinated in lime and salt in a pot, cover in lard, then cover the pot in banana leaves, fill the pit with coals, then bury the whole thing with dirt. Extract the next day and make tacos! I suggest a 20 quart pot; goat heads are big. if you don't count a few sushi dinners, on first dates, I haven't had meat since last summer. I think. There might have been a Taco Bell run, in autumn...

  18. I may be 50, but that wasn't that long ago.... Scoliosis here but not terrible. I simply have to behave and use the right bed, etc... My 17 year old son, unfortunately, has two herniated discs (L4 and L5). Terrible pain in his back and back of his leg from the sciatic nerve compression. He had an epidural steroid injection Friday. Starting to feel better, but his varsity basketball season is over. Poor kid. The transmission in my Jeep SRT is an 8HP70. It's pretty good considering the Jeep weighs 5500lbs w/o me in it. For context I've gone 0-60 in 4.1 seconds with zero modifications...it was a cool day. I can kick the shit out of most sports cars at our local road race track (MSR) in sport setting so I hear you but meh... I like to drive. My straight line stuff I do in my Challenger. It's an automatic now but I generally shift it manually anyhoo as I have both options with the flip of a switch and then using a ratchet shifter. I hear you about the dual clutch designs but they've been hit and miss including in Porsches. So as long as you only want to recall the last few years, OK...I get it, but it's not been all gravy. I won't make some purist argument about manuals. But I know what I enjoy...whether it's a heart shaped ass and a C-cup or a sports car. You can wax on about your preferences all day long. And as for track time, we should dance HS

  19. Ok so little update. While I have been busy there really is no excuse for me to be sitting on these pots for this long. To make up for it I will eat up some of the shipping costs. Everything has been tested and is packed up ready to ship. For the US/Canada everything will be shipped to @sbelyo and he will redistribute from there. Everything will be addressed and packaged already so all he needs to do is weigh and ship. If you would like to receive your pots sooner I could ship them directly to you, but just know that this is likely to cost $20 or more. I will also try to work out a similar deal with Aus/NZ. Of course for the EU I'll ship everything myself. This should be somewhere between 5 - 8 euros each. Thanks for your patience.

  20. Today must be my lucky day. Typically I end up owing a couple of grand every year on my taxes because I must have checked too many boxes at some point. Last year it was about $3k. We just got our W-2's and it looks like I'm due for a $50 buck refund this time around! Going from thinking I owed another $3k to getting 50 bucks back sure put a smile on my face.

  22. if he was more fluent in English, people would see him more clearly for the flaming asshole he is. When someone asked him whether the "HE-6" would be $2000 better than the SR-009, he said that his product wouldn't have to be returned for repairs as often, at least.

  26. Oh no...I hope your mom came out OK. We had several of them in the family. Started with 240's in the early 70's, Weber carbs and all. I think they really became great cars with the addition of the Bosch fuel injection and overdrive....fun and practical. Hard to beat the lines on them short of a Jag and that's another game altogether. HS

  28. I was parodying myself, HemiSam, just FYI. I'm glad to see that it was accurate parody. I have done some auto cross, but I'm sure you would kick me (and my little GTI's) heart-shaped ass. I'm sorry about your son. I can say, from experience, that is will likely get better with time. It wounding all heels, and all. I can't imagine a Porsche PDK being bad. I've driven a first year 997 with PDK, and even that was an excellent transmission.

  31. @Jim L I don't have SR-L700, but you're right on the 10 staxens collection, which is barely acceptable for someone posting down there...hey, I'm no 007mk1 lover and don't have any clue in electronics, so be gentle. Not so much to add to @Sorrodje's impressions. I could have written exactly the same statement on amp's ranking on HE60, as well as how far modded 727 stands from the two other contenders of the day. My opinion is a little bit different for 009, as I would insert two or three more ">" between BHSE and SRX+. No mystery I'm 009 lover, HD800 are probably my favorite non stat, but my tastes aren't exactly the same as Sorrodje's, so I value a bit more kick in the low-end, control, amount of details and soundstage provided by the BHSE's. Q/P ratio remains always on the cheaper one, don't mistake me, worn-out diminishing returns platitude in audio. SRX+ is not as "right" as BHSE, but there's something very funny and energetic in its presentation. Think about the low-medium kick and foot tapping thing you can get from SRD-7 + good ol' 2-channels amp, but with detail retrieval and soundstage you have on a very good dedicated amp, way way above modded 727 level even if some steps under BHSE's. When listening to 009 on SRX+, I was thinking about my Lambda Signature on steroids, kinda vintage sound, with 009 details and technicality (and Sorrodje loves Lambda Signature ) 007 are another story, as my main concern with them is their lack of dynamic compared to what I like. BHSE raises them at pretty good level at last, but on the same amp, they can't compete with my other Staxen's regarding dynamics IMO (main exception : Lambda Nova Signature). So the transformer-like sound exhibited by SRX+ (again, with details and soundstage from top notch dedicated amp) may be my choice to get the best experience with those unloved ones. Ali

  34. That shit was so long ago you might as well be saying that quills had problems compared to Bic pens (the irony is that I'd rather have the quill, as I'm someone with a large collection of 19th century dip-pen nibs, and I hate ballpoints, but this is why it's funny, so you'll just have to grin and bear it). I'll trade my lumbar spine for yours, and we'll see how much you like "the tactile side." I have 6 bad discs. How you doin'? Oh. That is so far away from a modern high performance dual clutch that I guess you are talking about quills. For anything but quarter miles. And who gives a shit about that? ZF 8 speed excepted. And you don't have a ZF 8 speed. My father's favorite brother owned what was a very well-respected Euro-only repair shop, in Atlanta. Soon after I learned to drive, in my dad's '73 Beetle, we took a trip down. My uncle insisted that, if I could shift in that Beetle, I could shift in the show-room quality '65 911 that he owned. It was a transformative expeirience. Boy, that '65 911 sure felt fast compared to the Beetle! I appreciate a manual transmission. You couldn't get me to own a new car with one, and it has nothing to do with "enjoying the automotive experience." I enjoy the motherfucking automotive experience.

  40. Risotto. Carnaroli, olive oil, onion, garlic, wine, salt, pepper, kombu-cremini broth, butter, parm. I think I've finally mastered risotto; it's taken years. A copper pan and a whisk definitely beats a pressure cooker, at the expense of a lot of time.
