Yesterday, I was on my way back from Monaco to Cayman, and sat next to this dude on the London-Miami flight in business class: http://www.johnsambataro.com/www.johnsambataro.com/Home.html Interesting guy. He's 63 and has been touring for 30 years, mostly with Dave Mason's band, but with Firefall for a while as well. Kind of a dead giveaway. He was wearing a new looking jacket that had this really cool embroidery on the back that read Dave Mason World Tour 2007. I had noticed it when we were boarding, so I had to ask him about it when he sat right across the aisle from me. "Oh, we get all kinds of this stuff..." Just a pretty regular guy who has seen the world several times over and is happy to still be doing what he loves and getting paid for it.5 points

This, which I saw on the shelf of the musical instruments rental store, while exchanging my daughter's 1/2 size cello for a 3/4 size cello, and I had to have it.3 points

I've got that one too Jon. I bought it on the recommendation that it's the best produced videos of 'Trane. Since then, I've seen a ton of them and this is far and away the best. Enjoy!2 points

Thanks guys, I'll do a fit test once I have the panels (should be early next week) and will then post up the final FPE files and photos.2 points

Thanks, Steve! I was kind of tempted to find my way accidentally back into that store and buy each one of the other 20, one at a time. [emoji41]1 point

For those of you that want the switch board, are we going ahead with the current version? Or waiting for a rework to include buffers and a servo?1 point

Actually, as I read the comments, there is a lot of concern that these stands are not thick enough (at 7.5cm instead of a more desired 10cm, which apparently they are willing to offer in a future drop due to all of the feedback). The concern is that earpads may be damaged from uneven pressure. Most headphones are about 9mm wide, so it seems. Someone posted several pics with a pair of Denon D7000 on the stand, where the outer parts of the earpads are not making contact with the stand. Dang site won't let me grab a pic to post it here. Will wait for the 10cm version. Oh, and the other issue is that being solid wood they are quite heavy and shipped from Canada, so the shipping is 50% of the price of the silly things.1 point

A strangely late review of the Oppo BDP-105D: http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/oppo-bdp-105d-audiophile-blu-ray-disc-player/ They probably should have reviewed it before it went out of production.1 point

It's going into a Parasound D/AC 1600. It's still a work in progress-- I needed to replace the DAC power supplies because the stock ones were remarkably derpy. Pulling the I/V stage causes the regulator output voltage to go up. I put in some shunt regs and ripped out approximately a million bypass caps that were to far from the load to do anything. I don't like GICs/FDNRs. That's what the Parasound had. The big problem I see is that the op amps don't have sufficient gain at frequencies that we care about (352.8KHz and multiples) to actually work. The PCM1702 specs this fellow, which has just 30dB of gain that rolls off very quickly at 300KHz+. Not only is the impedance driving the shunt op amps going to be sort of high, it will also change with frequency. I like Sallen-Key filters because they can be built around an emitter/source follower. Those are much more dependable. By cascading it with an RC pole, you can build a third order filter with just a current sink and a BJT as active devices, and it seems to work well into the lower MHz without doing anything weird.1 point

Awesome pork rinds. Great burger (gruyere and bacon), with a slice of my buddy's hangar steak Finished with some crazy fried bread pudding with caramel bourbon sauce with ice cream topped with house made toffee. Oh, and a couple drinks to go along with it. Florence City Limits Les Dauphins Cotes Du Rhone 2013 Such a great night. **BRENT**1 point

The cascode current source can be set with an LV source. Connect positive voltage to B+ terminal of the amp board. Connect negative voltage to the end of the 100ohm resistor adjacent to the DN2540 away from the heatsink. Measure voltage between the testpoints. Adjust until measurement is 1V for 20mA. (Calculation is 50ohms / 0.02A = 1V).1 point

http://www.antekinc.com/as-0528-50va-28v-transformer/ Earlier in the thread (had you read it) KG said you need ~35V raw dc, so 27 * 1.414 will get you ~38V minus the diode drops for the rectifier(s). I haven't looked at the schematic, but assume a bridge, so -1.4V, so you are at about 32.6V raw DC. Might work. 27-28V transformer will get you closer. 28V Antek above would put you at (28 * 1.414) - 1.4 = 38.2V. It appears some have built this with a 25V transformer.1 point

I will some day tell my children about the convoy ambush at the great wall of cars. There were three vehicles in the convoy: a lead car, the target, and a trail car. The lead car and trail car had mini-guns and were loaded with mercenaries. The convoy had a helicopter gunship as escort. With lieutenant Grahame, we devised a battle plan. We would create a roadblock to slow the convoy, mine the road to take out the lead car, use grenade launchers on the helicopter and trail car, then finally secure the package. What to use as a roadblock? Civilian cars, of course! And thus was constructed the great wall of cars! With the road mined, we retreated to our over-watch position and executed the ambush. Lead car down to mines, helo down to gernades, trail car executed with gernades and assault rifle fire. Brilliant! Admiring our handiwork: Finally, note to self, fasten seat-belt any time Grahame flys a helicopter because stuff like this happens:1 point
