  1. Well I've reflowed a bunch of joints (probably more than was needed). Since then I haven't had problems with oscillation, excessive offset, etc. The sporadic noise seems to have gone as well, but of course just as I say that it'll come back to spite me. Anyway, thanks for the help. I think I can stop fucking with it and just use it to listen to music.

  2. Lowered the resistor value at OP27 output. Now both offset and balance are in the mV area. Very happy with the outcome.

  4. Well, vacation is over and my GG lives. Turned out to be a partially dead lsk389 on one channel and a cold solder joint on the other, combined with too high tail resistor values on both. Obviously not my finest hour stuffing those boards . Anyway, the amp sounds really really good, so many thanks to KG and all other contributors for this great circuit! Now to find some exotic and good looking EL-34's to top it off...

  5. Downforce depends on the Cl (Coefficient of Lift) and drag depends on Cd (Coefficient of Drag), which are not the same thing. The Cd and Cl for an automobile depends upon the entire automobile, not just the airfoil, which is what your formula is looking at. What you really want is for the airfoil to provide significant lift (negative in this case) while increasing drag as little as possible. You may be wondering how I know this and it is because birds fly and people (i.e. grad students) study that shit.

  6. @P3t4: The board and schematic archives are in a transitional period right now (read the stax mafia circuit boards thread). If you're after the solid-state Carbon, I think this post has links to the schematics of the Carbon amp and the GRHV power supply. As for boards, you can get your own made (links to recent Gerbers should be floating around here somewhere), or buy from someone who has extras. It'll help to review this entire thread, as I think it covers every tricky point of the build. Other things to read, and think about: The original KGSSHV thread has great info on the basics of building an electrostatic amp. It's old and long, but well worth reading. A few more basics are covered in the old DIY electrostatic amp thread. If you decide to build an off-board heatsink design (like all Carbon variants), I hope you have access to at least a drill press. A full metal shop would be better. Depending on your experience with building high voltage circuits, starting with something non-electrostatic — like a Dynalo with GRLV — might be a good idea.

  7. It's possible to generate the same downforce at a given speed with lower drag. Therefore a better lift to drag ratio being better. Sorry if I'm rambling or being confusing (or wrong) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk

  10. I think the Barrett and Waters led Pink Floyd were both Pink Floyd, just different. What happened after/because of The Final Cut, maybe not so much. I have a hunch that what happened from the split has got Roger Waters still bitter about the whole thing 30 years later, so he decided to put bits of his era of Pink Floyd in his songs on the new album. Not sure how happy the other members of the band are about that...

  12. Oh, well there you have it. Our government must be limiting this vehicle because Reks says it's a dog. And while I think it looks nice, I must be wrong because Reks says it's ugly. I guess any opposing arguments are "fake news".

  13. Unless you have the measured Cd with and without wing, I do not to see how you can conclude that the airfoil does nothing. Does not appear to be a conclusion based upon science and analysis but on perception of ugliness. Oh, and birds do not live in an ideal world either but their Cl to Cd ratio is pretty amazing especially for the long distance gliders.

  14. I do everything by hand, and hand drilling and tapping heatsinks actually isn't too bad as long as you make sure all the holes line up. And with L brackets you just need 2 or 3 blind tapped holes to mount the bracket to the heatsink. That said, a drill press would be a lot more convenient for pretty much every other aspect of chassis work...

  17. Can you put that in a high altitude extended holding for a while? Need to save fuel. Almost finished the layout for the other channel. This is the first board layout I’ve done from schematic in the software. By doing it this way I hopefully can avoid mistakes in the process of copy, mirror from the right channel board to the left … Thanks Kevin, Kerry and others for new ideas that I can exploit.

  18. I found both these videos enlightening: I think Barrett-led (early stuff), ensemble (everything between <-- and --> ), Waters-led (The Wall, Final Cut), and Gilmour-led (A Momentary Lapse of Reason and after) were all Pink Floyd, just different. It seems Waters in the above video recognizes that he wasn't Pink Floyd in hindsight.

  19. Richard Wright dying made any hope of recreating old pink floyd possible, so Waters or Gilmore solo efforts are pretty much the only option for new Floyd these days. And since they haven't REALLY been floyd since Barrett got committed anyway...

  20. As much as Roger Waters would like to believe that he was "Pink Floyd", I'll argue that there was a bit more contributing talent.

  21. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Some-Madman-Edited-Wizard-Oz-Alphabetical-Order-I-Can-t-Look-Away-103867.html " Sometimes you have to just sit back and appreciate the internet in all of its ludicrous glory. Sure, there will be some of you that think the decision by a deranged editor to slice together all of the dialogue from The Wizard Of Oz in alphabetical order is a giant waste of time, when it actually it should be celebrated for being so hugely superfluous but still finding an audience on the world wide web. The result is also oddly hypnotic. Especially when it gets to actual words..." Those of you that are looking for a particular highlight to the above video without having to be subjected to watching the gloriously perverted version of The Wizard Of Oz in its full running time should head straight to the 28 minute and two seconds mark for "follow." Or if you’re looking to be instantly heartbroken shimmy on up just 50 seconds later to hear Judy Garland uttering the word "frightened" repeatedly.

  22. Oh look, an explanation by someone with a PhD in Automotive Engineering https://drivetribe.com/p/ZEmFReoISuu-UpRiwGcRdw?iid=E-rXx_YyTRuPWv1KDJjPRA also monitors, and dramatic lighting / music “Increasing the downforce by sacrificing the drag is something anybody can do, but that wouldn’t be very smart,” Kakinuma-san says, adding: “We put all our emphasis on improving the drag to lift balance, so we can increase the downforce but still reduce the drag”. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/6-new-things-we-learned-about-the-fk8-honda-civic-type-r/ cf, Negative Lift https://www.carthrottle.com/post/6-fascinating-technical-facts-about-the-new-honda-civic-type-r/

  34. I agree with this. Your normal brain based hearing calibration curve is based upon the sound from essentially a point source reaching each ear and then combined nonlinearly to allow sound localization, i.e. distance and direction. This obviously utilizes the asymmetrical location and shape of both the inner and outer ear, head size and shape, bone density, etc. This curve does not work with headphones for obvious reasons. Personally, I had to learn how to listen properly with headphones. Essentially I had to build another calibration curve or more properly, curves since not all headphones interact the same way with my rather imperfect sensors.
