  1. Done! Aside from connecting everything and cleaning up the unholy mess that's all around it and then finally recording some music. The monitor risers are actually at the perfect height.

  3. Steve, I have found your advice quite worthy.....I think in some sense you have a "wisdom of objectivity" along with a good sense of people.....

  4. The first month is always about determining compatibility. So at least in that regard you successfully found the answer to that. Glad that you can look at it as an adventure of a type. I don't really believe that there is a certain person for everyone but I do believe that there are many people out there that we can live a fulfilling life with. Some more fulfilling than others. I think it's all about how you read the many clues that inevitably creep through the mask. And determine whether you can live with what you learn. All of this advice comes from one who has never had a successful relationship and as such should be taken with a giant grain of salt.

  7. This is often due to a 1/4" knob on a 6mm shaft. If that's the case, a layer or two of masking tape on the shaft will add about enough thickness.

  10. Ozark on Netflix. With Jason Bateman and Laura Linney who are excellent but maybe the younger co-stars of this crime drama are stealing the show. Loving it so far.

  11. On a plane to London, which is how it was always going to end (vacation fling, and all, and London was the next leg of her summer vacation), but let's just say that three weeks was plenty of time for personality issues to crop up, especially when you are spending all your time together. Now I'm stuck deciding whether I should spend $35 to send the stuff she accidentally left here back home. I probably will. Still, even with the strife, I don't regret it. The first two weeks were lots of fun.

  14. Oh, that's pretty nifty sounding. It'd probably still be easier to use a normal octal tube base and stuff the PCB on/in it. Just a board with pins sticking out might be pretty hard to get out of a socket once its in, without something else to grab onto for leverage.

  15. What sort of size on the adapter? When I made ones for octals I would just buy tube bases and epoxy a socket into the top of it.

  16. my soekris 1541 arrived, the knob is a bit wonky - it's misaligned, scrapes against the faceplate for a portion of its rotation. luckily it only matters for the headphone connection. need to listen more but it's not bad so far. one advantage it has over the yggdrasil is that it's like 1/10 the size

  17. I've been eating these a lot lately (this one and the caramelized onion one): I usually dip them in Sambal Oelek, but haven't been feeling well since Sunday night, so just garlic & black pepper today.

  20. It's hyper violent and sexual and extremely well acted and written and set in the 70s and immaculately made, and an Otis Redding album is a major plot point.

  28. I took the hardware off an old dresser unit I have in the basement. I figured I probably won't regret making that one drawer a lot less slidey. Four cuts with a hacksaw to make all the pieces the right length, rub the burrs off with a stone, and they were good to go.

  29. After giving it some thought, I've decided I'm getting that building completed, then get my brother that Reverso Ultra thin, and take the chance of that Tribute still being available. Now if I hadn't been so stupid getting that Esoteric K-01, in which I lost a lot of money selling it, I'd have had the money to buy both Reversos, have the building done, and still had some spare.

  35. I stuck it in storage when I was moving and kinda forgot about it. The resistors were there so I'll use them but it would be trivial to use a CCS. These all had resistors back in the day I want to make it as a fixed version of the stock pile of fail. I finished wiring up the test points and pots today so the amplifier is ready for testing.

  36. They've honestly been less scary than I feared, but that has mostly been Trump and gang incompetence. What I'm worried about is McConnell. A lot of awful things can happen before the mid-term elections, and that is assuming that people actually get out and vote, come November 2018.

  37. Almost three years later, I'm finally working on this again. This is such an epic project as well...it is certifiable. The front panel is finished and mounted to the top plate. So very busy... Power knob on the left, volume on the right. Four 50K pots in the upper left hand corner to adjust the output stage offset and balance. Two 5K pots in the lower right hand corner with all the test points. Those cost a bloody fortune but were the only ones to fit in those holes. All 10 turn wire wound Bourns pots as well. TKD 4CP601 volume control as it fit the front panel perfectly. Not sure what to do with that gaping hole but might have a MA logo etched onto some plexiglass and illuminate it. Here it is even busier. The amplifier is mostly ready, just need to wire up all the test points and the 5K balance pots. Bias supply for the HE90 socket is in place but how I'm going to mate this to the power supply I just don't know. It has to go on the bottom of the chassis with two fairly large transformers and two PSU boards. It's a little bit like building a ship in a bottle... The PSU is up next so wish me luck.
