  4. The LG E6 purchase did not go as planned. While a great deal, it was on a floor model and when we brought it home, it had some really nasty burn in/image retention. Went back to Best Buy and spoke with the manager who very kindly offered a heavy discount on a new in box B7. Just set it up and it is quite nice Happy again.

  5. It contains three remixes of two tracks, which are amusing and conveniently tough for my system to track, until I got things dialed in. Next:

  7. On that note, it's amazing how many people at a meet/show will listen to headphones backwards and never notice unless its' pointed out to them: "oh, it sounds better this way..."

  8. Buddy wanted to listen to some vinyl, so I figured out a way to get the rig set up in a semi reasonable manner. Still need to mess with grounding the table and finish casing the pre, but its quiet and sounding good so eh.

  9. Does Stax care, or even know much about aftermarket amps for its headphones? I gather that the bulk of its buyers live in Japan, where KG amps are vanishingly rare. I can't imagine Stax sells more than a few thousand systems a year, and the third party amp market can't be more than a fraction of that.

  10. So "Ye Olde Analogue Shoppe" would have maximum markup? Almost ... https://www.inlander.com/spokane/ye-olde-record-shoppe/Content?oid=2133788 Maybe not such a good idea for perishable products due to the potential ambiguity /confusion perhaps?

  13. Brent can't afford lead shot. We need to keep reposting a combination of Brent's injury pic and his post crash tree smashing pic here so that is what I see in Tapatalk every time I look at the Cycling thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. Well as a manufacturer it makes more sense to target the luxury buyer rather than the enthusiast buyer, so specialty hobbies like this one have an incentive to become luxury hobbies over time. The luxury buyer doesn't always know what's good - though sometimes they do - but they're mainly after something that makes them feel special. Meanwhile, the enthusiast usually knows performance but often doesn't have deep pockets, so they're after value, and creating well-engineered, high-performance products that also offer a good value is not something everybody can do and certainly not something everybody wants to do. So if you want to make money, you tell the enthusiast "sorry" and then you leave them in the dust as prices get sky high.

  15. That spelling is what attracted him in the first place! Playback Designs says it is a combination of Swiss - German engineering and American entrepreneurship so how can you go wrong? I still really like my Playback Designs DAC -- especially for DSD but also for PCM -- and they have a fancy new line that is not out yet as far as I can tell. Here are links for the current one and a press release for the new one: http://positive-feedback.com/audio-discourse/impressions-playback-designs-merlot-quad-dsd-dac-syrah-music-server-brief-notes-pinot-quad-dsd-adc/ http://positive-feedback.com/industry-news/playback-designs-dream-series-quad-dsd-dac-transport/

  17. Stripped the huge LS decals, cleaned and re-finished the frame, and it got new ones, a new head badge, new cassette and chain. Since I stripped down the bottle cages to refinish the frame, changing pedals, I decided to go weight weeny and put it on the scale. The wheels are actually not particularly light. 19. Just came home to a surprisingly happy and grateful pair of teenagers. Got the girls to come down to the car under the guise of helping us with groceries. Got them an iMac and an LG E6 for the living room. Was half expecting them to roll their eyes and go back to their phones but they actually seem excited and are asking for help with setting the stuff up. I feel happy. And satisfied.
