  1. i recently did some refurbishing of my apartment, and decided to rotate the living room 180 degrees, to allow even more room for the stereo. this allowed me to place the TH subs in the corner, freeing up enough space to fit both my TT's! new USM Haller shelf (built from vintage parts) - Aw yiss! mmm... so smooth So now i have the AT33 mono on the NRK tts3000 (for mono records obviously) and the AT33ptg/II on the SR sp-10mkII I have routed them through an rca switch going to the RIAA, so i can change between them easily. the shelves pull out, and has enough room for around 300 records. a very convenient way to store the currently most played records close to the TT's.

  2. So I do things by specifications. The yggy is a 20 bit monolithic converter, not really designed for audio, and certainly not the fastest settling thing on the planet. Getting that design to do DSD is absolutely impossible without a completely separate DSD section. But it was the first rationally priced thing out there. And that was 3 (??) years ago. The 24 bit - 27 bit R2R things these days (the sign magnitude ones) (even the uncompensated ones) have much better specs, accuracy, speed, glitch energy etc. So it now becomes a matter of whose firmware is best. blurring the lines are hybrid firmware that extends DSD up to 6 bits, upsampling pcm to dsd etc. And for sure the firmware will continue to get better and better. Watching audio-gd, denafrips, holo and soekris duke it out is going to be a great thing for consumers. MSB and T+A and a few other of the high priced spreads (with no reason) are going to have some trouble.

  4. On that note... There's a rumor that Cavalli and Schiit are merging. Instead of merging product names and calling the next amp the Liquid Schiit, they're just going to call it Diarrhea.

  5. Prepping for the show tonight. Somewhat last-minute decision in part to wash away the incredibly disappointing Decemberists show last night. Took Alden and a buddy for his last show before heading to school and it was a bust. Colin Meloy is burnt out or something and they played a bunch of shit songs and few hits and had an over-long interlude as Off (read Awful) Rex with Olivia Chaney. Total bummer for Alden who loves [almost] everything Decemberists. Come on Matthew, don't let us down tonight!

  7. I don´t like Marilyn Manson but when I saw John Lowery (John 5) the first time I thought there was something special about him. I have always liked his way of playing several opposing styles (metal~glam~ country) and I think he is a very underrated musician. John 5 and the Creatures: Turn up the volume of your amps!

  13. There is a lot of marketing speak on that website. As somebody who works in marketing, it makes me suspicious.

  15. There would very few companies that pass scrutiny dished out here. Regardless of the valid issues raised by Don and Chief Cook my Yggdrasil is sounding amazing.

  16. Sad but a possible name for them. I can't see why the two would merging. Cavalli is highly overpriced while some Schitt(s) can be quite a good value.

  20. Stay safe, Brent. You may identify with being white but these white supremacist shitbags are even getting DNA tests, which ironically prove that they are not as white as they think they are.

  22. Some more record listening/sorting.. A nice Brahms set.. I liked it and will keep it.. good performance of #3 and good dynamics on the recording.. Changing Gears a bit with Voodoo Suite - I am a little torn on this one, not the greatest recording or condition - but it is sure interesting. May stick around for a bit. This was a little bit of a find for me - This early Diahann Carroll (59) record turned out to be really enjoyable and well done. This BTO was in just too bad of shape - got it a long time ago from a friend that did not take care of LP's.. gone... Getting into the 80's for a bit... This Noise Works from Australia was pretty good. Kind of a .38 special vibe with other stuff thrown in - It was well recorded and was well played - but nothing caught me on the album. Not that it was boring - just not inspiring to listen to again for me ooph - way too 80's. Not a real instrument in the house. And these were the Mixes. Did not make it to the B side. I don't care what you say - I like me some Mr. Mister. On the better side of the 80's for me. I remember liking the Outfield, but didn't know this much. This Trio from UK has some U2 features to them. But I found myself knowing every song. I must have listened to it more than I thought back in the day. An older recording. Just does not have the life and liveliness that I really want in this show. Thanks Amoeba I will not see that $4.95 again.. A live show (show 2). That was pressed for broadcast. It is hosted by Jim Ladd. Good recording of a German show - just a little too compressed - and rolled off at the high end. But as a Yes Fan. It is nice to have in the set. (It says to return after broadcast - I will do that as soon as I broadcast it) Know all the songs - like all the songs.. Thought - old crappy pressing, will not hold up.. Wrong - it sounds really good. Turns out to be an original pressing - and a good one. Record was not taken care of - but should clean up well in the VPI. looking forward to listening to on main rig. What they use to sell as an 'import' - This bootleg Genesis has some good performances on it , but it is just not recorded well enough to listen to much more. That being said I did listen to 4 sides (you have to guess which ones)..
