  1. Steve, You of all people should know the technical term is "flaming".

  3. Thanks again Jose. Finally got it all into my case and did the grounding per your recommendation. Much better. Only slight hum I get appears to come from one of my 6SN7GTA's because the hum is only from 1 channel, and it switches channels when I switch the 6SN7GTA's. Also, with the grounding and with the elevation of my filaments per JimL's post, I was able to do all the adjustments per the guide and get to the right levels. This amp sounds really nice. A few pictures below. I have not installed the volume control yet.

  6. Fuck. That is devastating. I'm so sorry guys I learnt that I cannot get US visa any more. I wanted to join you guys in 2018 meetings. I really feel sorry about it. As return we stopped giving visa to USA citizens. That made me laugh. And I got my pre and power amplifiers today: And speakers are on their way:

  8. I got mine upgraded with relative ease. Took me around 30 mins at the most. The Gen 5 is definitely a good upgrade over the Gen 3. Sound is warmer with better resolution. Has better sense depth as well. Loving it!

  10. Well, with my newfound love of Stax headphones I thought I'd start a Stax thread. So talk about your Stax cans/energizers/amps...etc. I've got a pair of SR-Lambda Pro headphones recently and I love them. Right nw I've got them hooked up as follows: Wadia 23 RCA>Denon AVR-100>SRD-7 Pro>SR-Lambda Pro I've also heard these out of Hirsch's ES-1 and the 007t amp. The ES-1 trumps all of them of course. Overall they're the clearest sounding headphones I've heard. Vocals are warm but well articulated, the highs are sparkling and fast. The bass is full and rich but does lack the speed of a dynamic headphone at times...but it can go quite deep on some recordings (Thievery Corporation). I don't think I've ever been sucked into Paul Galbraith's recording of the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for violin before like these cans suck me in. It's magical....I felt like I was back in music school sitting a few feet away from a buddy playing classical guitar at his recital. I closed my eyes and I was there. I realize that I'm in the honeymoon phase, but I've never had a hard time putting cans down to go to work, do housework, go to slepp..etc. like I do with these. I don't want to stop listening to them. I' listening to them right now as I type. I also picked up the SR-84 combo; called the Lambda Jr. by Stax (SR-4 electret energiser and SR-80 Electret headphones). These are a nice little find as well. Good office rig. Set up as follows: iPod>Sonic Impact T-amp>SR-4>SR-80 Good little combo. Overall retains the same house sound, clear and crisp with more muted bass and less speed overall. But in a pinch they would make a neat little portable rig...can be battery powered since the SR-4 doesn't plug into the wall. So what's your Stax?

  12. If I were you I would send my Omega to this outfit. I have never heard anything negative about them. That, and maybe read your welcome pm.

  13. You already asked Birgir with pm, got an answer. Also started a topic about it, got an answer and started another topic. I think you should go with this website. Get and experience about it and share your experiences with your friends. Or just get a JH 13 and stfu.

  14. Then you should train a hamster to plug it in and forgo any switch. And before anybody makes the comment, no, I don't have any extra hamsters.

  15. Yeah, same rails for both. I am definitely willing to push it harder than 16v - com’on this is HC!

  16. The OPA221 datasheet says supply range up to 36V with absolute max of 40V and LMH6321 says supply range up to 30V with absolute max of 36V. If you're using the same supply for both I probably wouldn't go above 16V rails, just to be safe.

  17. Antonoff is just killing it at the moment. He also co-wrote and produced Lorde's Melodrama. And his own output is just as good, in my opinion, which is pretty rare.

  18. This is a bit of a departure. She's almost willfully eclectic but definitely worth checking out the prior output. Has real guitar chops too which should interest you?

  19. Thanks, Dusty. I hadn't really thought of it that way, at least in terms of rewinding and wondering why I didn't pick up on any signs. But like in your experience with your co-worker, there really weren't any signs. His wife was with him all night and she didn't pick up on anything. You're also right in that the proximity in time somehow makes it hit closer to home, and oddly eerie (for lack of a better word) in some way. It doesn't seem fair, but I guess that has never been a guarantee.

  20. Thanks, Gary. Haven't seen you two forever! Hope you're keeping well. I wasn't especially close with Bill, but did have a lot of respect for him. It's just so odd that it happened right after his class reunion when he was out having a good time catching up with people and laughing about old times. I'm dumbfounded though. He was just standing around chatting with people, stone sober, not exerting himself in any way... I've already got an appointment with my cardiologist for Monday of next week when I get back to Cayman. Probably time for another prostate exam as well.

  22. Very sad indeed and a lot more wineries are at risk even if they dodge the fires no telling how next years crop may be affected. Stay safe my Bay Area friends, I am worrying about you all day long. If you have not already done so please formulate an exit plan just in case.

  24. Not in my experience. I hear a clear improvement between the Gen 5 and Gen 3 in my Yggy. Lots of others have reported the same.. The Eitr I first bought to try out crapped out on me, and I returned it. Their QC sucks. Have you contacted Schiit and complained? You may have gotten a sour unit too.

  25. RIP Tom. I'll admit to wanting to do you harm when your CD got jammed in the CD changer. It was on the fishing boat, in the Bering Sea, and it played repeatedly for over a month. But that was no fault of your own. You made some great music and did things your way!

  27. In my opinion the aggressive sound signature is mostly owed to an upper mid suckout which gives an impression that the headphone sounds quiet, while the actual SPL is pretty high. So you have to really crank it so it feels right. The upper mid suckout is the Fec...erm Focal house tuning. I don't mind it too much, but it can be dangerous as it makes you expose your ears to higher SPL's.

  28. Have been listening to the Elear every day for the past 10 days or so using both the original Dynalo and the SuSy Dynalo. Today I hooked up my HD650 for a contrast. I read many comments on the internet comparing these two phones to each other. I don't get it - these are two very different sounding headphones. The HD650 is very "polite" sounding, almost everything sounds good through it. The Elear on the other hand is a very intimate sounding, in-your-face kind of presentation. On some material it can be too much for me. The Elear also has more resolution and there is more substance behind the human voice and instrument. It's very dynamic. Now that I have a first hand experience in a familiar setting, I can understand some of Tyll's comment in his review. There is a quality of this headphone I have not experienced before which I still cannot quite wrap my head around it... Both headphones feel comfortable to me. The Elear is noticeably heavier and cramps tighter. I should mention that my HD650 is an older version with a Cardas cable which I re-terminated with a 4 pin XLR plug. It sounds warmer than my friend's 2 years old HD650 with stock cable. My Elear is used with my own DIY cable.

  29. It appears I have good news on the T2 front. Today is my first day off in a month and a half so I'm running at approximately 50% which is way more than is the norm. The first thing I did was to go over the PSU and everything was as it should be, all resistors matched the schematic and everything was properly soldered. So that wasn't the issue I checked the transformers and lo and behold, I didn't get any resistance readings on the 485 and 285 windings... Turns out SumR fucked up the data sheet so violet*/gray were listed for the 485VAC winding but it is supposed to be gray/blue. Ditto for the 285VAC windings, they listed blue*/green but it really is violet/green. Here are some pics of the other transformer under test but the resistance on the offending transformer is the same: Needless to say I'm not happy but I'm more angry at myself for trusting the datasheet... Now I just have to fix the leads and hook everything up for testing.

  33. Fire has already destroyed a bunch of great wineries — Darioush, Chimney Rock, James Cole, Reynolds, William Hill and Signorello have all gone up in flames. Absolute tragedy for the region and the industry. [emoji853]
