  3. After many, many years with BAT/Avid/SME YG Acoustics systems this is what my wife and I have spent the last year building for listening to records through. VPI HR-X w/12.7 arm, and VPI ADS power supply. Air Tight PC-1 Supreme cartridge. AudioNet PAM G2 phonostage w/ AudioNet EPS G2 power supply. AudioNet PRE G2 preamp, AudioNet AMP Monoblocks and YG Acoustics Anat III signature speakers with a couple upgrades. Back up cartridge is Benz LPS. Mono is Ortofon Cadenza mono on seperate 12.7 armwand. Digital (Dac, Rdbook, SACD) all done with Marantz SA11s3. Cables are a blend or Kubala-Sosna and Audioquest. Power cords are Signal cable reference and DH Labs Red Wave. Room treatment from GIK. Audio Desk Systeme record cleaner. Adona rack

  4. They have arrived! The builder got the color exactly what I wanted and was able to match the trapezoidal shape of the speakers perfectly.

  5. You don't need any shielding. I have made umbilicals with and without, including bundling the heaters separately and could detect no difference.

  6. Amazing how many parts are out of stock for this? So in order to use this on a tight shelf I bought some 4x10" heat sinks and modified the case to use them Only 60 holes to drill and tap. now moar better.

  7. I'm going to create a thread for this amp since it is my intention at the end of the build to publish the schematic and any relevant details so that anyone who's crazy enough can build this amp. So for now this (and the amp) are a work in progress and just somewhere where I can share pictures. Actual information will come later. Night #0 of PS chassis fabrication: I did a preliminary layout of all of the parts on a large 17" x 14" x 4" Hammond Steel chassis that I happened to have laying around. It seemed big enough so I took rough measurements of where everything was located so that I could tweak them later for better alignment and symmetry. I'm not all that concerned about everything being dead-nuts accurate for this amp build. The look is going to be decidedly industrial, frills need not apply. Night #1 of chassis fabrication for the power supply: I got all of the hole centers marked and drilled a majority of the small diameter mounting holes. Both the transformer and the chokes are mounted on vibration isolating grommets, not strictly necessary but they can't hurt. Came home early the next day from work to break out the 2" hole saw to cut holes for the large motor-run caps and drill the associated mounting holes. Night #2 of PS fab: not much time tonight, drilled a few of the larger holes for wire penetrations in the chassis and installed insulating grommets to prevent wire wear and shorts. Also test fit the caps and small chokes. I erroneously bought a 2-1/16" hole saw so the cap holes are slightly oversized, oh well, there are worse things. I'll pick up the proper saw for the remaining 2, 2" diameter caps in the amp section. Night #3 of PS fab: drilled the remainder of the wire routing holes in the chassis so that I could do a fairly complete mock-up of the iron and caps. All seems to fit well but holy hell this thing is heavy. Tomorrow I'll pick up the remaining bits and parts that I need to complete the PS fab, all that I really need is a 1-1/8" bit for the tub sockets. I could use a stepped bit that I have but even with the drill press that bit gets unwieldy and I'd rather not trash the chassis at this stage.

  8. Dear friends, Amb.org is currently down due to a problem at the ISP. Unfortunately it is taking a long time for them to fix it. I’m very upset that it has taken so long without resolution, and it appears that it will be down for maybe another several days. The level of service I’m receiving from their customer support has been abysmal. Meanwhile please be patient as I work with the ISP to restore the connectivity. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. -Ti

  9. I see, and thank you so very much for the quick respond and the confirmations. This explains the 7812 which supplies the relay load is regulating 12.1V and then drifting to 12.65V and down to 12.16V again I fired her up again and measured the HV together with the Bias, and ignore the -16.5V as I have no load to put it on. +12: 12.01-12.1V -12: -16.75V Low Bias: 276 High Bias:: 565 +500: +496V -560: -555V -260: -242V -500: -494V I also tapped into the Relay supply for the Led indicator to avoid tapping into the regulated from the output....but I guess it doesn’t matter since the LT7912 tends to overshoot without loads ? the Led is only an indicator and not a functioning switch

  10. Yeah, the ST ones certainly overshot with no load.

  11. I recall these 78xx regulators some times overshoot without load. Maybe try putting a load on the output and re-measure?

  18. It is a great amp, fairly independent of price range I think (though 37K obviously is the Best Ever...) When I build mine, I only had it for a couple of weeks and really liked it a lot. Then a friend asked to borrow an e-stat setup so it went to him for further opinion. A month later he declared he’s not giving it back unless I force him to do so. Have to build another one I guess

  20. "some kind of conniption fit" -- around 3am? I call that the "midnight nutties". Most cats do that." "around 3am" wouldn't be entirely incorrect. I'm learning something about cats everyday. The "love-bites" made me a bit nervous, at first, but apparently cats do that when they are overstimulated, even if they are just laying on you purring while you pet them, so I learned that, too I think I'm now a cat-person, honestly.

  23. Oh, I am. It was an emergency adoption caused by an asshole being an asshole out of spite, and cats not having a place to go. I'm getting used to them, though one of the cats (the mostly-black one) had some kind of conniption fit, and kept me up last night for hours. The mostly-white one seems to have been embarrassed by the whole thing: This was after mostly-black one calmed down, but before I went back to bed. I've gotten used to having them around.

  24. Wow - you go away for a week or two and there is so much to catch up with! California burns. Bloody hell, what a mess. So many dead, so much destruction. Cats, Jacob? What prompted that? I'd have thought you were a dog person. We got our two back from the cattery after our time away and they are going though the cycle "I want to be out, I want to be in, I want to be out...." repeat maybe ten times until they settle back in. Here, the remains of hurricane Ophelia came across the Atlantic and went mainly through Ireland and Scotland yesterday. 100mph wind. Three dead and widespread damage. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-41627442 . A bit gusty where we live, but we are 400 miles South of the route, so we're OK.

  28. Fired up the smoker today while working on the deck. The ribs came out great (there were 4 sets like this is total) and the deck isn't looking too shabby. Still have the other half of the railing to do but now that we've got it figure out it should go pretty quickly.
