  1. Yeah, they might even be doing this just to fuck with us. On top of this...the SR-007A is now available in black color... I might pickup a new set in the new year to try out the current crop just to make sure they haven't changed them yet again. That and the new SR-009 project will be thrown into full force. Basically...I'm going to make new diaphragms for the 009's to change how they sound i.e. how they should have sounded in the first fucking place.

  4. Ehhh what the fuck is wrong with Woo Audio? So this is not up to spec but it is at least closer than many of the latter amp. So this is voltage divider off the main B+ which should be 600V. It's 121K into a 3M6 shunt which gives us 580V. That's ok but then they put a 3M6 ballast resistor... It should be 4M7 so this is close but not correct. I would change it and to a proper high voltage rated resistor too but this is close enough in value to not hurt the phones. On the newer amps I've seen it as low as a few hundred K if there is even a ballast resistor at all...

  5. Success! After a few days of dealing with the regulators I finally got them soldered in properly. +V: 20.00V, -V: -20.02V of course the 0.02V offset is super annoying even if it is within 0.1%. I calculated that I would need to add a 23.8 Mohm resistor in the AOT spot to adjust the voltage to -20.00V. Not really worth it, although I might just add it to my next Mouser order.

  6. I too was worried. Just bought a brand new pair of SR-007A and was surprised to see the SZ2 serial number. But they look brand new, still in the box with plastic sealed around the box. BTW, johnwmclean, I am 230x, so ours were probably born on the same week!! Or, given the random serial numbers, years apart!?!

  7. Built yet another GRLV for my CFP amp. This one set for 26VDC rails and the current draw from it is about 1.1A (for a balanced CFP amp with 220mA bias current). Empirical evidence that the GRLV can supply more than 1A current from both rails. Don't have LT1021 on hand so using LM4040 for voltage reference for now. It's much cheaper but also much higher noise. OP07 in place of OPA134. Those resistors standing tall and proud is my way of easily adjusting rail voltage while I am tinkering with the CFP amp. They are inserted into Mill-Max headers below. Cannot really see from the pic but the pass transistors are bolted to a heatsink below. EDIT: at this current draw, you need to allow for higher dropout voltage and heatsinking for the pass transistors. I would plan for solid 26vac input for 26VDC regulated rails to be safe.

  8. My maternal grandmother died today, 2 months after her 100th birthday. She was a simple woman, who had a tendency to make complications for the rest of the family. Her death was not unexpected, but it does mark the last of her generation (at least in my family) passing.
