  1. We had a post match team dinner there and I must say the food was awful. The ribs, brisket and chicken tasted like regional airport food. I would not recommend this place to anyone. But on a somewhat brighter note, Lance with his team mate Ilya.

  3. This is actually for tomorrow. My wife runs https://www.brendoncare.org.uk/ as CEO. Their patron is HRH The Countess Wessex, wife of Prince Edward, youngest son of the Queen. So tomorrow we're off to Bagshot Park (their home) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagshot_Park as a fundraiser for my better half's latest project https://www.brendoncare.org.uk/care/our-care-homes/otterbourne-hill . Dinner for 42, with five great and good expected to fork out UKP150k. The ones that could not make it, chipped in UKP10k. Should be interesting! I'll let y'all know what it is like.

  5. Mini Dynalo After running the amp for over an hour, bias was 14+mA, so right where I want it to be. I thought it might be interesting to create a table or spreadsheet showing different users biasing and results, so I made a Google sheet, here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1D5LDuRdupZRoWR-GfAd03fkFSBAMY4-E_VcYfCAI1Z0/edit?usp=sharing Go ahead and fill in your info if you like so this is available for all to see. Note: this is the first time I've created a Google sheet, so let me know if you can't edit it and I'll try to figure it out Heatsinks: I've been looking for some. The ones that @mypasswordis mentioned from ebay don't seem to be available any more, and I'm having a hard time finding any that appear to be suitable size. There are some I almost pulled the trigger on that were 50mm x 25mm, but the 25mm would leave the end transistors half covered. I could get the Fischer SK81/37.5/SA from TME and cut them in half, but I'm trying to avoid that if possible. I'd need enough for 3 amps. EDIT: Found these, 45 x 35 x 18mm on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/263051780518?var=562054192200

  7. Currently 10% of global power generation is consumed by server farms, cloud computing, crypto-currency, data centres and so forth. Google and Amazon alone count for a good chunk of that. To control that nonsense new installations are located either in cool climates (Like Iceland!), near the sea (to limit air conditioned cooling), and current plans are to site under the sea (security and having lots of cooling *right there*).

  8. It'd be very sad, but I don't think they'll disappear, they'll fire people and close factories to build just as many guitars as they can really sell. We'll see.

  12. I bought and read Black Man years ago... it was enjoyable, but I felt like I was missing something. Obviously, I should have read the other books. The book I think of immediately when the transference of consciousness is mentioned is Kiln People by David Brin... highly recommended.

  14. I've been putting in a lot of hours with the Focal Clear on my L2 -- reasonably good match on low output impedance, very poor match on high impedance. I can't remember hearing another headphone so sensitive to high output impedance before, but it screws the bass all up. Understanding now why you make a DSHA-3F version, Doug.

  15. so the options for the new woo amp 1) plate resistors, they already said its not this 2) inductors, they already said its not this 3) center tapped inductor, you get about 6db of gain with this. 3a) push pull output transformer. all sorts of issues with gain and power with this 4) solid state current source maximum voltage gain of 6sn7 is about 20, maximum voltage gain of 300b is less than 4 somewhere there are likely to be input/interstage transformers and then you are still going to have trouble getting to a voltage gain of 500 or more if you want some feedback to reduce the distortion. the viva evidently is also low on gain, and uses and output transformer. why people produce shit like this I do not know

  16. Mikey, I can see that these folks aren't impressed with our puny NW snow. Me, I was dancing around on my deck when it really got going! Don't worry, the old girl should handle it just fine. Just keep an ice scrapper in the trunk.

  18. Thanks all. Did get my first skate in since the crash today, felt ok. All slides worked out as expected. Had a couple of good meals, which each were the size of a couple good meals, with a couple of good friends.

  19. @ Pars: I suspect the ones I got are poorly made copies of the ones you got from THL which is actually located in Taiwan. I guess the trick is which vendors can one trust to get the quality ones. @ Jose: I like Neutrik product very well and use them when I can. I this case it's just much less work to drill one hole per connector than 3.

  25. Got the first of the 3 minis finished more or less (less case, etc.). Had it running on AC for about 5 mins or so. 255R bias resistors, +/-20V PSU... I'm only seeing around 170mV across the 20R resistors. Low, and seems strange with others getting 18mA with 220R, etc. As for adjustment (offset), I used the pots by the LEDs to get the offset between +/- for that channel centered around ground, then had dialed the individual offsets in using the other 2 pots. Anyone have a different adjustment method? I may play with the pot by the LEDs and see if that does anything to the bias current or not.

  27. Tried my hand at soldering a pair of the regs on, using a Hakko 936 with a 3.2mm chisel tip. Had a hard time getting some of the pads to tin on the neg reg, used plenty of flux. Switched to my smallest point tip and ran around the outsides of the chip (from the YouTube video). My hot air station hasn't arrived yet, nor have the Meanwells. I'll put the associated components on tomorrow night and probably use my bench supply and see what happens. Sorry for the crappy photo, but let me know what you think.

  29. So I picked up a Focal Clear and prefer it by a long shot over the Mrspeakers Aeon Open. They are both running through Raffy's Extreme. I am selling the Aeon on HF and have a chance to pick up an ECP BD for the Aeon plus some cash. From what I am reading, the BD should be a good match for the Clear. Any thoughts?
