  1. And we have music! After a 5-month saga of locating discontinued parts, melted SiCs, and counterfeit parts from questionable vendors, my Carbon boards with GRHV power supply is up and running!!! Big THANKS and shout-out to the other members here, especially Sorenb and Blueman2 for identifying the cause of my original disaster (not properly heatsinking the SiCs and 10M90s) and the cause of the follow-up failures (counterfeit SiCs and 10M90s from China). I wouldn't have known where to begin to troubleshoot let alone recognize the counterfeit parts. Special thanks to Chinsettawong for lending me authentic replacement parts to complete my boards. ? In summary, two lessons I learned and am passing on for future builders: 1. Proper heatsinking is absolutely necessary for the Carbon and GRHV -- not just for long-term use, but even just for powering up to adjust the current. 2. Buy electronics parts only from reputable vendors -- and Yes, they do sell counterfeit MOSFETs in China that will blow up when powered up. I'm so happy!!! Now I just have to complete the front case and wiring.

  2. I listened to the MySphere twice in the Woo Room fit is funky when you first try it. It sounded pretty good with really extended headstage but something was going on with them with the bass ,they all of a sudden started distorting when the volume increased. I think there was a issue with them as they where pre production units. I was disappointed as I like The K1000 a lot. I will give them another try when the final production units are available to listen. I didn't care for the Wells $38000. monoblock setup with the AbYss.

  4. Still forgot to listen to it when I went back even though you mentioned it. I did listen to the Shure portable stat system though, and thought it was pretty meh. The nearly nonexistent track collection on the iPad they had didn't help, of course.

  8. Yeah!!!! Congratulations! Great news. Yes, buying parts from a reputable source (Mouser or Digikey here in the US) is a hard learned lesson for many of us. The other lesson I have learned is minimalism in amount of solder. My Carbon went south about a month after build, but with sorenb's help I found I needed to remove excess solder and recheck all the joints. No issues since. But I am really happy you got your baby up and running. For case, I recommend one with big external heat sinks. The carbon really puts out the heat. Well done, bui501!

  24. Well, that was fascinating. There were people there who had indeterminate but massive wealth. Founders of hedge funds, international road and infrastructure construction, bankers and so forth. The Countess Wessex was both charming (she was in PR before she married Edward) and disarming. I had the whole "Your Royal Highness" thing worked out in my head, but she totally threw me by coming into an entrance behind me, and I was the first person she saw in a full room - put her hand out for a handshake and said "Hello - delighted you could come". You could almost hear me brain rattling around wondering what had just happened; I think I babbled something. Carole said "Yes - that is absolutely typical of her. She is completely not up herself, unlike Prince Charles who gets really upset if you don't follow protocol" The house was built in the 1880's for Queen Victoria's youngest son, who died in the 1940's, after which the house spend long periods unoccupied, and of course progressively degraded. Took several million to restore. We had dinner in The India Room, which is lined with carved paneling in the Indian style. Actually everyone was really good company. Had a chat with Susan Hampshire, who has aged really well (no facial work), and still has the glorious honey-like voice from TV and film. Impossible to think she's now 80. It was only afterwards that it was found that five of the ultra-wealthy had chipped in £25k each, and two substantially more. Sort of as loose change. One guy, a self made man from Mauritius, has pledged to become a philanthropic fund raiser for Brendoncare. Quite an evening!

  26. RIP to my sister-in-law Carol.....a wonderful, silly, generous, smart, sometimes neurotic woman who loved her family, especially her two kids, more than I thought humanly possible. Had been having epileptic seizures off and on, meds weren't fully helping; usually seizures in sets of two when they came. She and my brother were in Florida visiting my older nephew. Apparently last night she had two seizures but then a third, went back to bed after, and never woke up. I'm going to miss you horribly....may your love shine down from heaven.
