  1. RIP Steven Hawking. I worked near Cambridge for about ten years during the 80's and used to see him out and about with his wife (the one he divorced in order to live with his nurse). Of course he was well known then, but not the mobbed famous he became in recent years, particularly after the movie. So people use to just walk by and think "Oh - there's Hawking". He'd lost control of his neck even then, so when he went over a curb his head would flop forward; so he'd stop and his wife would put it vertical again. He visited the Space Research Centre at Leicester University when I was doing a contract there about ten years ago. Unfortunately the lift was too small for his chair (!) - so he never managed to get up to see our work. Given his level of disability, it is a real wonder he lived to 76. But absolutely one of the greats. Again, RIP.

  2. Put the finishing touches on our advertisement for a summer pre-nationals championship fencing camp. This camp which I have organized with some help will be a very high level elite fencing camp. We will have the gold medal olympic fencing coaches from the London, Beijing, and Rio olympics attending. Olympic fencers, one of which Daniel, is a two time olympic foilist who trains with Lance and a Italian olympian will attend with a few more possibilities in the works. We will be using a 24,000 square foot state of the art training faclity with all the bells and whistles included. Currently pushing to see how many foreign national team members we can attract, right now we have a couple of Russian team members and maybe a few Italians. This has all the potential to be one of the best pre national championship training camps in the country but either way it will be a great experience for the fencers who attend. A big plus is that the olympic coaches love California wines so we have a win win right there. Fingers crossed that I don't mess anything up.

  3. RIP Dr. Hawking. A remarkable mind, and a remarkable story of perseverance. Like many here, I've read his book and enjoyed it even if I didn't fully understand its content. I'm not ashamed to say that cosmology is mostly beyond me, but it is a fascinating subject. I always liked his guest cameo on the Simpsons:

  5. Like many tricks in HiFi area, people are willing to believe expensive caps、wires、fuse、rhodium-plated sockets etc. can make sound euphonious, some companies are to modify their crap stuff with high-priced materials and price the product at the much higher level to make people to think they are sound better. "tone tuning",this is the word that I hear those people say most. I often hear they say : bhse is tuned for 007 not for 009 ,carbon has too much bass ,gg and megatron are tuned for listening vocals, kgss is more "analytical" than musical... I've built bh/carbon/gg/mega,to me,they're all great amps in the same class.

  7. It's that time of the year again. One of these days I plan to attend but I'm happy enough to get my yearly wake up call of what's happening in the music world outside of my own melon. Here's a link to NPR's Austin 100. I usually use it to jot down artists I want to try and find streams of and hopefully shamelessly copy! https://www.npr.org/2018/03/01/585356494/the-austin-100-a-2018-sxsw-mixtape

  9. RIP Steven Hawking. Brilliant and a sense of humor too: " I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road. "

  11. I have updated the GRLV and the CFP2 BOM, based on the layout, if you guys have any interest to that. I can not upload it, I can not attach here either, out of quota :-( https://mega.nz/#!8kYl3YoQ!3t851N3SOzj_pxxcOZtUznVPTXJw4jBhG7tySlaWgUI https://mega.nz/#!B4YhmBRD!Zk4EP4vQCHMur2VUzOVsliOkhzwgmH7TpERhRc5fDB4 It is important to mention that I did not built yet these, I have used the assumptions as I described before at the amp, at the psu it was pretty straight forward, there are only an an antiparallel diodes on the opamp input and some small caps on the output and some at the opamp power rails what was missing from the schematics.

  13. This storm has gone from entertaining to borderline scary. We got about 12" throughout the day of reasonably light, fluffy stuff. I went out to clear off the driveway as the forecast was calling for another 3-5" overnight and anything over a foot gets problematic, even with a tractor-mounted snow blower. It was still snowing when I started, but not hard. About a half hour into clearing it started to pick up and got crazy. I'd wager we got at least another 3" of snow in the next 30-45 minutes while I finished clearing the driveway and helped the neighbor do his. It's calmed back down but the drift on my deck is legitimately 12" higher than it was two hours ago. Hopefully it'll start to wind down... Oh, and I talked to a friend who's another 10 miles or so inland, they have 22" of snow and it's still coming down hard there.
