  2. I’ve two PSUs for my electrostatic amplifiers. The DIY T2 has 500 volts rails so I’m feeding all my amplifiers with 500 volts. Now I’ve been thinking of building a new PSU with 400 volts. From what I understand the only reason to go higher then 400 volts is if you really want high sound levels. Today I’ve brought down the T2 PSU to +/- 400 V and -460 V (the -560 V in my PSU is produced by its own regulator connected to ground). The only modification on T2 amplifier needed was to change the battery voltage from 740 V to 640 V – swapped the 4.7K resistors to 6.8K. Since I use offset servos similar to the opto servo Kevin introduced in his designs a couple of years ago I didn’t have to change anything else.

  3. Started cleaning out my apartment. Signed a 6-month lease renewal, at the end of which, I need to be downsized and moved out. That was a compromise between renewing the lease for a full year, and going month-to-month at a much higher rate.

  4. Maybe that's just the reality of the consumer market dichotomy. A race to the bottom for commodity goods where (lowest) price is everything, and the remaining non-price sensitive, cost no object 1%. Where do high quality, value for money goods fit in that world?

  9. The 103 has been such a centerpiece for everything in my rig audio visual. I give oppo much respect and wish them the best in future endeavors.

  10. Sad to see. Oppo was somewhat responsible for killing off Sony ES & Pioneer Elite video players...only to witness its own slow dead. I owned the 105 & HA-1 and though that they were quite good for the price. The HA-1 was a beast but the sound was a little bit dry for my taste.

  11. That's certainly possible. But shareholders generally prefer it when you instead unload the business onto someone less farsighted and scrupulous for a few hundred million smackeroos, which they can put into their pockets.

  13. Looks awesome Adam. I moved much of my crap into my new office this week and I know a fraction of your pain. The satisfaction at the end is great.

  14. Looks fantastic Adam! Moving to a new place is one of those Exciting/Exhausting things. Congrats (but don't forget to take a break sometimes)!

  15. Mentally and physically exhausted after clearing out and cleaning my old apartment. There is definitely something about packing each and every one of your worldly possessions that gets the emotions going. You wonder things like "how the hell did I ever acquire so much shit?" and "how the hell did all this shit ever fit in that tiny apartment?", but it also gives and opportunity to reflect on how you got to where you are and on all the family, friends, enemies and acquaintances who have been a part of your journey along the way. In any case, time to crack the good tequila, get drunk, and sleep for at least 10-12 hours.

  16. Yes. I won't share that one however. Let me clean something up and I'll send it to you. EDIT: see attached. Allows color selection for jacks, THAT340 or JFET, onboard or Amb regs (including associated parts). EDIT2: Replaced file; description wrong on 160K for Amb reg. Also note that the JFET selections chooses the TO71 package. The SOT223 package is a bit cheaper, so you would have to manually handle that. Also, many of these parts are small. You might want to order extra. Also, the Elna Silmics don't fit worth a crap, and didn't sound better (sounded worse to me). Not recommended. ssdynalo-v1-4 cby.xlsx

  17. Yep, have one at home that replaced my HA-1. I like it a lot, but I also liked the HA-1. I have always liked the Sabre DACs so keep that in mind. I have not done a side by side comparison but I will be keeping the Sonica. It is feeding the BHSE with Omega, 007-1 or 009.

  18. ^ That (interface) was because they also copied the Cisco IOS (including comments and bugs). When I worked for Tellabs, during an optical tradeshow, we caught two of their engineers attempting to disassemble and photograph a piece of our equipment on the show floor after hours.

  19. While working for Cisco in the late 90's or early 00's, Huawei came out with a competing router that looked just like the Cisco router, had exactly the same command interface, same features, etc. The funniest thing was that the documentation was, with the exception of "Cisco Systems" being replaced by "Huawei" was word to word exactly the same. This included copying the typos.

  20. Looks like you need to start claiming your home as partial business use. Maybe an ultra exclusive gym with one member?

  21. Filed my 2017 taxes and remember that I really screwed myself by forgetting to pay my property taxes until January of 2018. This is especially bad since they change the 2018 so that you are limited to deducting $10K on your taxes (and my 2018 property taxes are already going to be around $18K). FML.
