  1. By the time a lot of us got to the point of owning Stax, there was a lot less hair to deal with. Other than maybe ear hair?

  3. That's a loaded question but over all...no. In theory they should be the best, effectively open stators with a massive open area with none of the inevitable turbulence you get with hole stators. The downside is rigidity, how do you make them flat and make sure they remain flat when they are pushed hard (pun intended... ) . Since Stax are the only company which have tried these and have some engineering standards, let's take a look. So the first SR-X had mesh stators built into the same frame as the SR-3 drivers. They were tiny and had no support which caused reportedly massive issues so the Mk2 arrived very quickly. Then we have the SR-Omega. Large copper mesh on a resin frame and cartwheel spokes to try and keep it flat. Well anybody whose opened up an Omega knows how strong that resin is (it isn't) so after they were reborn (Stax that is) they tried aluminum cartwheels but that clearly wasn't enough given how very different the 007's were.

  4. Like mine. We use it all the time in the family room. The main problem is smartass teens who think it’s funny to wander into the room whenever something is playing, say “Hey Siri play ‘God’s Plan’” and leave smirking.

  5. I still have a couple of prototype amplifiers available. One is a Black Diamond with an upgraded power supply ($1100). The other is a DSHA2 ($1200). Both amps use transformers for gain. More information at http://ecpaudio.com/stuff.shtml, or send me a PM.

  7. Stax are still stuck in the distributor model but slowly embracing e-commerce. There is a certain comfort level in only dealing with a limited amount of customers world wide and having them be your reps with anything customer related. Things are changing though as Stax now has a proper online shop in Japan where everything they sell is listed, including the spare parts.

  9. Stax with proper English would not be the company we all know and love...

  10. Patsy Cline - Greatest Hits Listened to this last night. I've always been a sucker for a great alto voice and Patsy sure was one of the greats. Taken from us way too soon.

  15. Well size isn't everything, it's what you can cram in a small box that counts... My KGSSHV is smaller than the Stax amps but is much more powerful and with a completely regulated power supply. The Carbon isn't much bigger and more than twice as powerful than the mini... Plenty of threads here where we rip the amps a new one. We've not been as active in this but that should change shortly. Time to expose the shit that's popular on HF. Something to offset the fucked up news above, a pic of the ever growing Stax museum. I clearly need a second display case in the living room: 009, SR-Omega and HE90 on the top shelf Two SR-1's, SR-2, SR-3 and SR-5 on the next shelf The 404LE, SR-SC1, Lambda Signature, Lambda Nova Signature and Lambda Pro Being all abandoned at the bottom is the SR-X Mk1. A lot of other headphones all over the house plus a lot more in various stages of restoration.
