Meanwhile ... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-05-08/the-ultimate-analog-music-is-back-ballfinger-reel-to-reel-tape via: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/5/8/17330324/ballfinger-reel-to-reel-tape-decks http://www.ballfinger.de/ * it probably means something else in german The google translate of the about page is ... interesting ...3 points

No, I think it’s the 120R resistor below, right of the 50K resistor and left of the 12V zener. Need to confirm with the schematic - it’s the resistor between the offset trim pot and B- in series.3 points

Needless to say, I invested in one of these works of art and well... it didn't disappoint. External build quality is way beyond the Cavalli Mk1 unit I had but inside...yeah.... So if anybody thinks this is good for 300$ they need their head checked. Every expense was spared here, just look at the high quality sockets used. I mean, who hasn't heard of the legendary "Hooya" sockets let alone "ZWEE". I mean quality stuff... Circuit looks to be identical to the LC minus the internal switcher. All the same issue as well plus the super cheap volume control...1 point

Russ Gabriel's "a tidier, more compact set-up" that he used to finish his new album.1 point

Just not entirely sure why people want to take risk on these gears when you can buy the Gilmore Lite MKII for less than $499 or one of Spritzer's Dynalo for less than $700. Much better sound and a well engineered products.1 point

Yup, the 120R resistor. Measure from B- to the other side of the pot and then you'll know if you need a larger or smaller value.1 point

Saw Chelsea Wolfe and a few other cool bands last night for the opening of the Nordic Museum, of all places.1 point

I'm also impressed with the Gilmore Lite Mk2, got mine a few days ago. Clean, smooth, transparent, very nice with the HD650 and Focal Clear.1 point

Thanks a lot George, but I actually have a small stock of j79/k216 myself. Living in the middle of nowhere you need to be prepared. Have been socializing with the faulty channel today and we are now both happy again. Maybe it’s more of a Grounded Grid with dual tube input and active batteries than a T2. Picture below shows the modded T2. No j79/a1486 at the output stage. Upper right the middle a1486 is missing – replaced with resistor so upper tube grid voltage is set by a voltage divider. If you have a well defined supply voltage you don’t need to send 2.5mA through a 27K resistor – I think.1 point

Here's some more SNS material! One of the best with which to ponder existence.1 point
