  3. quick look says the mp11 and ca58 have basically the same action. The mp11 is mostly for people who will be playing on stage or portably, so it doesn’t have a big advantage for you guys. I’d favor kawai’s’ integrated systems if the price isn’t a barrier. They do a pretty amazing job of integrating, and use an actual piano soundboard for their resonance, so it feels right. The FP90 is a VERY highly regarded piano. I wouldn’t rule it out over something else for someone else. I don’t think it’s a bad choice. If you’re buying new, dealer matters, so go with the dealer you trust for either. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  4. I wasn't. I can't remember if that was right before or after Piper was born, but either way, I blame her!

  6. OK, went to try out some Yamahas yesterday and went to the Kawai showroom today. Wasn't really wowed by any of the Yamahas. The feel of the keys on the Kawai CA 78/98 (GF II) were great. Although the sound out of the 98 was nicer, I might go for the 78 just based on cost. Unfortunately, they didn't have any CA58 or MP11SE to try. From what I have read, the GF II are slightly better than the action on the 58 or MP11. Now, I just need to figure out if I want to fork out an extra 500 to get the shiny black vs the matte/satin black. Shiny...

  7. Thanks all! The actual day sucked, I had a TON of work to do, my wife was out for the day and early evening at a conference, and then I had a nighttime work call with colleagues in Korea. Tonight should make up for it, going to have my "birthday meal" at a local fish-focused restaurant. They took the specific dish off the menu last year, but they still made it for me. Hoping they can do the same this year, but if not they have other nice options. EDIT: Nate, thanks for the extra wishes. We are fine, we got our gas back less than two days after I shut it off....no issues at all

  9. Who knows what the oldest 007's fetch these days. I for one wouldn't overpay for one as the newest units are the best 007's IMO. As for the KSE1500...well no. There is one pin which senses the headphones being there or not but I haven't looked into what's in there. The biasing is also not really compatible with the Normal bias standard...

  10. I agree that touch is a BIG part of it. I haven't tried many electric pianos but the ones I have tried didn't seem to match the touch of a real piano. And I favor a stiffer action, like a concert grand rather than the soft ones that a lot of upright pianos have, because a too-soft action makes it difficult to get a good pianissimo. Actually when I was shopping around for a piano the best action I found was on a 7 foot Fazioli - that piano made me sound better than I know I am - just couldn't afford one. Ended up with a Falcone - the original made near Boston, not the Sejung made ones.

  12. Unholy carp, really? I need to revisit, sounds like the technology has come a long way...feeling the sound and the strings' vibrations through the fingers to me makes the world of difference...

  25. Christmas came early in NH. A few weeks ago my wonderful wife authorized the procurement of a new bike and I've gotten out some late-season rides. Today's was particularly cold. New ride is a Scott Genius 940, picked up for ~20% off as a floor model. It's truly amazing how far things have come in the 6+ years since I bought a mountain bike.

  26. Apparently another problem that has cropped up is that someone who substituted a linear power supply for the stock switching supply caused the on-off switch on the amp to go AWOL, so whenever the LPS is turned on the amp turns on regardless of the amp power switch being off. The "solution" is to ban linear power supplies. And Monoprice has no repair facilities so they refer it to a local repair shop - I wonder if they cover the cost of repairs - that's a rhetorical question,

  35. Unexpectedly bummed out by the unexpected death of Paul Sherwen, professional cyclist and, more importantly to me, cycling commentator. Sad that I won't see him beside long time partner Phil Liggett any more because they have commentated all of the Tours de France I have followed starting in the late 80s. He competed in 7 and commentated in 33. Commentate in peace, Mr Sherwen. https://www.npr.org/2018/12/03/672806336/paul-sherwen-renowned-cycling-commentator-dies-at-62
