  2. Yes, it's a B-24J from the Collings Foundation. The ride was short (30 minutes) but fun. I started in the radio operators position, just behind the cockpit. After takeoff, I stepped up into the cockpit behind and between the pilot and co-pilot. After a couple of minutes, I moved to the rear of the plane and spent the rest of the flight there. By far the best viewing is from the open waist gunner windows. My dad piloted B-24s during that time. I've been meaning to take a ride in a B-24 in honor of my dad for a while but the cost always put me off. This time I realized that I wasn't getting younger and did it. I'm glad I did. The "Wings of Freedom 2019 Tour" will go through NorCal starting May 15. If you have any real interest, I highly recommend a flight.

  4. @Grahame: if Joanne gets a hankering to make or just eat some egg hoppers again, here is a recipe from a local Sri Lankan restaurant that serves them. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sfchronicle.com/recipes/amp/Recipe-How-to-make-1601-Bar-Kitchen-s-13775241.php

  5. Phew. The landscape has changed since I last did this. One thing has not changed. 2.5" drives use 4 pegs to stay in place. I brilliantly forgot to swap them from the ca. 2011 HDD to the new SSD and realized the fact just as I tightened on the last screw on the underside panel of the Mac. Many screw (and curses) later, I re-opened the laptop, extracted the SSD, attached its 4 pegs and re-installed everything. Blissfully, the machine booted with no problem. Then I had to enable TRIM. Years ago I used a freeware app called TRIM Enabler. In 2019, said app is no longer free and arguably malware. Fortunately, there's a command in Terminal that does the same thing: sudo trimforce enable. The above screenshot confirms it's working. Even with a 2011 i7, going from 4GB of RAM and a slow AF 2.5" 750GB HDD to 16GB of RAM and a modern SSD is like working on an entirely new machine. High Sierra was not meant to run with 4GB.

  6. They did improve them. The original had straight yokes, the result of which was that the earcups couldn't swivel outwards enough and the clamping force was applied to the top of the earpad more than the bottom, causing comfort issues and bad seal. It looks like the shape of the yokes is different on the new one, which should remedy this. Though it looks like it might also increase clamping force a bit, unless they enlarge the headband. Either way, comfort issues, shitty bass, and a top end that was just a little bit too peaky are my main complaints with the L700. Seems like they're trying to address 2 out of 3 at least, and it should end up a better headphone.

  14. Oh, Stretch, so naive. I bet he could get at least $150. My early 1969 144.022-69 is worth 3-4 times what I paid for it. I bought it in 2015. It's nuts, the market for vintage.

  16. My Mom had this recording and I used to love listening to it as a kid. Found it on Tidal The second track describes the recording of the cannons and bells used. Pretty interesting. Don't play it too loud. They did a great job of capturing the vintage bronze cannon.

  19. Sky – Piece of Paradise A flawlessly brilliant album of soul-pop. A few of you may remember their singles from the late 90s-2000 period. Sadly, I just found out that their ex-lead singer, James Renald, passed away last year.
