  6. I was shocked to see PBS Newshour show the worst spoiler on their story a day after the series ended. Luckily I'd seen episode 4 but anyone who hadn't would have been bummed. Terrible news editing in these days of "on demand" and dvrs. On another note, I have to confess that I can't stop watching cheesy YouTube interviews and such since the series ended. Makes me feel like a teenage fanboy!

  9. I think you're not being "fair". I means: My favorite amplifiers are the BH/GG but comparing them with the CFAe is like comparing apples with oranges. I always try to make a comparison with something that has a certain similarity (in this case, solid state amps, not hybrids) so I think of the Carbon more than the BH / GG. Finally, I think that this amplifier is new and it has had less "development time" than other designs by Kevin, (although Joachin has done an excellent job with his modifications) I don´t know exactly why . Perhaps it is not very showy ot too exotic... I hope not to offend anyone.

  11. Re: Mini Dynalo I thought I had posted this here, but apparently I didn't (had some PMs going at the time). When I was getting ready to ship the last mini out that I built, I noticed an odd problem in that occasionally DC offset on the SE would jump to ~500mV at startup. To make a long story short, I determined via scope that the Meanwell bricks don't always start up at the same time. When the + comes up first, the servo opamps freak out briefly, causing the offset. Without the 0R jumpers in you'll never see this. And it only affects SE output; the balanced output offset is always fine. A month or so ago, while perusing diyaudio, I ran across a comparator circuit used for power management in, of all things, the O2 amp. This circuit, placed before or after the regs, with proper parts selection for voltages, would cure this "problem". I realize virtually no one would build one of these for SE output use, but one thing to be aware of. If you are using SE phones with these, wait about 30 secs. before plugging them in. I did PM this info, and this circuit to Kerry, but he has a lot of fires burning and redoing the mini probably isn't even on his radar

  13. We haven´t talked much about this amplifier. ? I usually need some time to adjust to the sound of a push-pull amplifier. Once time passes (hours) I feel very comfortable with him. Honestly, I don´t see any flaw: it has a fairly defined and balanced sound, enough power... to put something negative, the only problem I see is that not all adapt to the sound of a push-pull amplifier (paradoxical) ... But that's what Carbon is for.

  16. Gah. I can't find my M42 to EOS adapter anywhere. As I continue to blow the dust off 15 years worth of photography equipment, I've now unearthed my not insubstantial collection of mid 20th century manual focus M42 lenses. I want to mount my E. Ludwig Meritar 50mm f/2.9 to my IR 5D. It's a quirky lens, and fantastically slow by the standards of 50mms. I've shot film through it, but never mounted it to a full frame DSLR. I actually have a bunch of M42/EOS adapters, but they're more or less permanently attached to my (as of, say, 2009) preferred lenses. The adapters are secured to the lens via a set screw, which is nontrivial to remove. The weather is perfect right now, and if I can't find the adapter I want, I may be forced to dig out a micro screwdriver. Also I have a bunch of photos to post here. Later.

  17. Just bought a japanese hifi magazine issued back in 1995. It has the great omega+T2 combo on its cover with four pages of technical info of the t2. A nice collector's item under $20.
