Not today, but this week, I started learning JSP. Didn't realize that was something different than Javascript (which run on the browser), but rather, Java Server Pages (which run on the server). Somehow, I've managed to spend most of my career avoiding all but the most trivial GUI work. (I usually do backend work. [cue Steve]) And I already was told I could call myself an expert once I learned how to do Decorators. I think she was being sarcastic, but who cares, the guys who usually do the GUI work are too busy trying to upgrade all the code from Java7 to Java8, and I'm pretty sure I can get it all done in a couple days. So...pride.8 points

I tend to use light to medium roast single origin coffee for my espresso. If it’s good as coffee it’s probably good as espresso.3 points

Basically loving it so far, with the one exception that the shots seem pretty small. Don't know if it's just the coffee I have absorbing a lot of the initial water or what, but basically the best process so far seems to be to run a single through it, then a double, to get the volume/flavor right. I'm sure I'm not doing something exactly right but based on the research I've done I pretty much have the grind and tamp done right so that only leaves the machine. I did purchase the 3yr warrant thru Amazon so I'm not really worried. If it bugs me long term I'll get it replaced. Or I guess I could start monkeying with the settings and see what happens. Regardless, it was a good week of coffee.3 points

The Plot Against America - Philip Roth What if Charles Lindbergh defeated FDR in the presidential election of 1940 and decided to form a non-aggression pact with Hitler's Germany? The effect of that historical counter-factual on the Jewish community of Newark, NJ is the center that this book revolves around. It is about to become an HBO mini-series, so I figured I'd get out ahead of the curve. This was my first Philip Roth book. I enjoyed it.2 points

Apologies for detracting from the exchange. I'm learning a few things about machines here. I use a French press. My first time trying a Zambian coffee and I must say it is very good. Purchased from Double Shot in Tulsa. Why Tulsa how a relatively generous amount of good roasters I cannot say, but this is one of my favorite roasters these day. I lean towards medium roasts on most coffees although do love an espresso now and again. HS2 points

I tend to use this adage in reverse. If it’s good as a latte, it’s good as coffee plus creamer (I asked for almond milk lattes, so I cream with various nut milks). Besides, I don’t need it to be steamed milk hot. But that’s just me, I’m not trying to change anyone else’s mind. Please continue to enjoy your little hearts in your foam. They’re cute. ? So...yeah, I’m a French press guy, too. I tend towards French and espresso roasts.1 point

Oh man, I wish I would have known about the Herbie/Kamasi show. Just recently introduced to KW but as a sax player, I definitely enjoy hearing people who are near the top of the game.1 point

Those are a couple of shows I'd like to catch. Mikey, did Terrace play mostly sax or some combination with keys and percussion and stuff? He's super talented and interesting. Lionel is a straight up genius. Herbie is beyond.1 point

Thanks Steve - yeah the Washington set was great - just rode on a wave of notes the entire time. The Herbie set was masterful - Band: Herbie Hancock, Vinnie Colaiuta, James Genus, Lionel Loueke, Terrace Martin. Experimental - Musical - Engaging (first time seeing him - fan since I found his music in the 80s)1 point

^^ enjoy I was lucky that Sonja brought a Breville to the relationship.. (larger style with grinder, etc.) After several months of Costco coffee living out of the airbnb - we unpacked the roaster last night after our move - and immediately roasted a batch of : BRAZIL QUEIXADA ILICINEA - EDNEI HENRRIQUE - GREEN https://www.bodhileafcoffee.com/products/brazil-queixada-lliciniea-green Roasted just to full city (maybe city+) So nice to be sipping on our own roast again.
