  1. I knocked a minute per mile off my speed on my evening walk. You real runners aren't going to be impressed, but I'm very happy I have my aerobic base back. https://www.mapmyrun.com/workout/3790273684?fbclid=IwAR1rg02aAxnT44NGOPrj-zJHUOhlP8nrnEOjLn46l1KQpyJLVf5DBZXFRSY

  5. Don't get fooled by the latest fashion. Buy one, enjoy it, and if it's not enough you can change afterwards. I bet it'll be keeping some money value in the future.

  6. I went from the Utopia to the Clear. Gave up that last tiny bit of amazing transparency for a better (to me) upper-mid/treble balance. Purk is also right about the soundstage, but the DSHA-3F gets the best I've heard for soundstaging from them, and imaging (eerie good!) within....

  8. This is so true. Boris has generated curved space that is sucking the UK into a black hole. But he is now stuffed. He cannot go for a no-deal (now illegal) and France has said "no extension beyond 31st October". And the Scottish court has ruled the Boris's suspension of Parliament for five weeks is illegal https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/sep/11/scottish-judges-rule-boris-johnsons-prorogation-unlawful . All in all a pretty bad week in Boris-land. And I'm massively enjoying watching the bastard twist in the wind.

  9. Thanks for the tutorial Antonio. I'll give it a try. What I've heard to describe a sauce that has separated is "broken" as in " the sauce has broken" ?

  11. So you call it aioli instead of alioli? Funny I thought it was a typo. The word comes from all (ajo, garlic) and oli (aceite, oil) in the Catalan speaking side of Spain. The authentic is made of garlic, virgin olive oil and a tiny bit of salt. No eggs required, but you may use one if the result using just oil and garlic is too strong, so it comes out as a heavy garlic scented mayonnaise. It has to be hand made in a mortar, with a lot of patience and adding the oil very slowly, a couple of drops at a time. You first smash 3 or 4 fresh garlic cloves until they become a paste that could be spread on a toast, then you go adding the oil very slowly. If you try to speed it up it will "cut" (I don't know and can't find the word in English) and the sauce will be spoilt forming unmixable bubbles. There are ways to recover it, but it's not easy. That's the way I used to make it, not anymore for it's too strong for our aging stomachs. Once it's "locked" you may add a few drops of Tabasco or any other spicy sauce you wish. We don't do that, some people add just a few drops of lemon juice. I guess you can add bacon grease or trying to make the whole thing with liquid bacon grease, although probably it will become solid like butter once done.

  13. I guess that should be "bacon garlioil" I don't know how you name alioli (allioli in Catalan, also ajoaceite in Spanish).

  15. 1. I use the digital volume on my DAC but you can easily add a volume control to the amp. 2. This chassis I use is quite small - dimension is 160mm x 70mm x 311mm. It's only for the amp circuits and you cannot fit the entire amp in it. There is a PSU in a separate chassis. As an example, you should be able to fit the entire amp including the PSU in a chassis like this. 3. My rough estimate for parts alone would be about $700 US that also covers chassis, transformer, connectors, wires and a reasonable 4-gang volume pot. Like most things these days, labor is the biggest investment. Cost can escalate quickly if you start getting into fancy chassis, volume pot and boutique parts (resistors, capacitors, wires, etc.).

  19. So, what do you guys think of my front panel layout? I would like to loose the indicator mark on the knob, but it functions in four positions alternating between the four options on/off for gain (high and low (MC/MM) and rumble filter (on/off). The LEDs are bi color green/red, green is on/MC and red is off/MM. The power LED is always green. Just using the same value resistor for both colors, they seem to be matched somewhat. The LEDs are from Bivar and the circuit uses one common-anode and one common-cathode. Just for Nate, I avoided blue

  20. It's been a while since I built something just for me but here is something old... So long story short, I was sent some boxes by mistake and the seller said I could just keep them. That also meant I had to find a project to put them. They were tiny 70mm tall boxes with sinks on the sides so an idea was born. It's been roughly 15 years since I built my first KGSS so why not make something to commemorate that..introducing the KGSS Klassik. So this was a pretty difficult birth, cramming the PCB's down to this size while using the same parts I used back in the day...was a challenge to the say the least and well, there is no space in the fucking chassis. So this is a bone stock KGSS like we did back in the day but with a few modern twists. Output resistors, 2SC4686A's instead of the C3675's but that's about it. The PSU is the new SMD version of the old KGSS design. As can be seen, this is a super tight fit and makes something like the KGSSHV mini seem spacious. It does work wonderfully but I need to do something about the Stax socket. So this one comes from the whole host of extension cables I've killed recently and often the threads on those sockets are just toast. So here I glued it in place with some crazy resin glue but it didn't set properly. Other than that, it is a cracking amp and not "that" much bigger than the SRM-252...
