  4. Where we live we have owls, coyotes, bobcats, hawks, snakes, tarantulas and hipsters. A bad place for all living things.

  5. This morning there have been quite a few birds in the yard and especially in the bird bath where they have been splashing around in rain water. A few minutes ago I looked up because I heard a thud on the window and saw several birds streaking by. I went to the front door worried that one had hit the window. There was a little house finch laying on its side that was alive but stunned and maybe injured. Just as I put my hand on the doorknob to check it out, a small hawk -- probably of the short-shinned variety -- swooped down and flew off with the finch in its talons. It was very startling, but I'm assuming the finches had been fleeing the hawk in the first place. #WildKingdom

  6. Cold and snowy day in Minnesota. A good day to stay home and enjoy some music. The Blue Hawaii with Brimar-branded Mullard XF2 EL34 is sounding mighty good!

  9. well i'd really intended to get a kalita for pour-over instead of a hario v60 but i came across the v60 drip decanter and it looks about perfect... uses a plastic size 02 so i can make two cups for Mrs and me and save time. plus Prima restocked the untabbed 02 filters which are (apparently) hard to come by now so i ordered a bunch with the decanter. pour over come at me bro.

  10. IMHO Superbooth has taken the world by storm. I've been trying to figure out a way to get over there to attend one (and an F1 race maybe). If you haven't watched one of the endless SonicState videos from last year, here's a good one with a Richard Devine interview. He's using one of the Polyend sequencers that are pretty popular (and a butt load of other goodies).

  11. This seems to be my day for anecdotes. About a year ago we went to see a play in Chichester with Richard Wilson in it. Now Wilson was recovering from the effects of a heart attack, that came on so quickly some months earlier that he keeled over in the street and struck his head. He recovered from the heart attack, but was left with some mild brain damage which rendered him incapable of memorizing lines. A dreadful affliction for an actor. So since the part was a headmaster, he used various tricks to have his lines written down so he could read them. Even so, at one stage he had to remember a few lines and temporarily dried until he hauled the lines out of his fritzed brain. He is so professional that even though he was still in recovery he insisted on honoring his commitment to play the part. Anyway a good friend of Wilson is Matt Lucas, something we found out because Lucas and his partner/husband were sitting directly behind us in the theatre, so we overheard their conversation, and the background to Wilson's difficulty.

  22. Yes, the Deluge looks great too. The 3.0 firmware updates look pretty cool. They seem to do similar things differently – I'm looking at the heavy-duty MPC units out of curiosity – the MPC Live, MPC X, and also the Force.

  27. Better than the fate of a friend of mine, Paddy Glenny, who emigrated from the UK to start a brewery in Nelson in British Columbia, Canada. Along with his brewing activities he trained as a park ranger. As part of his responsibilities he used to paint ball grislies so that their movements could be tracked. He described this crazy process of getting down wind from this apex predator, and trying to get it with three different colours. After which put live rounds in the chambers in case the bear charged. He also packed a magnum hand gun, again as a back stop. Next thing he got gored by a juvenile black bear across the buttocks, that crashed into the clearing when he was eating lunch. It also stomped his satellite phone. So he had a very nervous 20 mile hike out leaving a blood trail. He survived that. At then, somewhat later he just plain disappeared. His remains were never found, the assumption being that a grisly eventually got him, and any remains were finished off by a host of other predators.
