  1. Worked a rehearsal today where we repeated a segment nearly three hours. The music played throughout? Survivor's Eye of the Tiger. I actually missed 2020.

  3. When I was 16 or so, we visited my older brother who was going to grad school in Chicago. My brothers took me out one night and I used his 23 yo ID to get into a number of places, including seeing a local band called Survivor. The venue was a weird hall with hay bails along the walls for seating. It was pretty funny to see them rocket to star status a couple years later after Rocky 3 came out.

  5. Just catching up with this thread. About ten years ago we had a Renault something, and it had a quirk. If you half closed the door the central locking would fire. So in January I parked in a remote car park to go for a run in cross country shoes through the mud and slush snow. Got back to the car soaked in sweat, tossed the keys on the drivers seat and as I moved to the boot (truck) to put dry clothes on, the door half closed - clunk. Keys and phone inside. Me outside in freezing temperatures, soaking wet, and it is getting towards dark. Fortunately there was an elderly couple in thi

  11. I was able to open the windows last night and air my place out. Today there is <100AQI air all over the bay area. It feels amazing to be able to spend time outside and see blue sky for the first time in a week.

  12. I was sent this and it was posted on SBAF so one can expect the level of discourse over there: There is so much here that I don't even know where to start. First off, they claim this circuit is "unique"...well it isn't. Old as the hills this one, same as the old TubeCad stuff, the Rudistor amps, the prototype Schiit built, that Trilogy H1 piece of shit and I've been building similar amps for the last 15 years. Stax also released something similar in the 60's so no...not unique. The amp circuit is simple and works well enough for a cheap amp so nothing wrong with that. I

  21. The ESP6,7 and 9 were all single ended so the amp won't like that at all if you've somehow connected the back stators together. You can isolate them though as I did back in the day on my esp6's.

  22. I wasn't sure about posting this but it kinda had to be done. Pic is from HF and the usual nonsense in the peanut gallery there: So this is the Sirrah V3 from high-amp.de...aka yet another slight twist on the Stax SRM-1 Mk2 or derivatives. For me it is just the build here and well... the total shitbox we have here. First off, what's up with all the hotglue? As somebody who has built hundreds of amps at this point... I don't even own a hotglue gun nor would I ever think of using this crap. Some other goodies, top of the transformer sanded for it to fit in the chassis, no insula

  26. I spent the evening tidying and organizing my desk. Cable management, schmable management. My studio is in the corner of an unfinished basement, and I think this fall and winter I'm going to try framing in a room and finishing it.

  29. The Irisih ambient composter Mick Chillage Gainford took a bunch of photos of the Irish coast and posted them to FB (I'm enough of a nerd to be FB friends with him.) I especially liked the look of one of them: I spent half an hour working it over in Photoshop (I finally upgraded from my ca. 2012 CS6 version) and came up with this: Look for Mick Chillage's new field recording and synth drone release "Sea Wall" later this month (not really.)
