IT'S BACK! I remember it being big, but I forgot how massive it is. In no way is it going to fit on the TT stand I just built. I've also forgotten the layout of the controls on the speed controller, and which is input and output on the DIY Pass Pearl phono stage. Lots of fiddling to do before I'm near ready to fire up the beast, but it feels good to have her home again. It was 12 years ago that I built her. I need to see if I can get the Zu Audio DL 103 aluminum bodied cartridge repaired. I had broken the cantilever some years back. I also need to source a rubber belt for the motor/platter. Damn this thing is big!10 points

The Opus wasn't reading about 1/3 of the CDs that I had tried in it, so I replaced the laser in it tonight. Works great!8 points

Don't worry, you'll have to take it apart again when you replace that fence. And again when you add the sliding table.3 points

It is the Incra. I think it is like the old saying about democracy, that it's the worst fence available, except for all the others. It can be finicky and difficult to get calibrated, but it allows for doing things that are otherwise impossible. Traditionally, woodworkers don't really measure which makes it anathema to many people as it is purely about working to measurements. But it does suit the way I work, and I'd be lost without it. I did try to have a router table built into my saw table for a while. I tried using the same Incra fence for both, which was a bust. Then I found that the auxiliary router table fence was constantly in the way of the saw, so I removed that for the previously mentioned sliding table (which I am more ambivalent about, but when it is useful, it is very useful). The one accessory I have found that is worth its weight in gold is the JessEm stock guide. also, for the record, we have a Nespresso. I'm not that picky2 points

Got the new stands setup and the Barefoots off of the wobbly desktop stands. Still have none of the treatment in, or any notification of when it might come as GIK seems to not like answering the phone/e-mails. Even in the bad room, with a glass wall behind them they sound pretty fantastic. Then I used Sonarworks Reference 4 to treat the room and the sound is pretty great when playing back Qobuz using Sonarworks Systemwide.1 point

Pickles are very easy to make. I just bought the hot ones by accident, and I'll be making that mistake again. Delicious.1 point

John, those should be fine. Comparing the datasheets, it appears that thermal performance has decreased ( or been reevaluated), but electrically the same. Regarding the Dynalo, yes, they do seem to drift more (and act like the servo isn't working). IIRC, even the full size ones do this.1 point

Man, this game had better be great. I can already hear the Metacritic rating dropping out of spite.1 point

FWIW, I like some of the LTA gear, used to own the Micro-ZOTL 2 (the first non-Berning incarnation). Was a great little amp for not big $, and combined with my Exogal Comet DAC had some folks at a NH show saying it was the best they'd heard from the Senn 800. I also met a couple of the LTA guys at a NY show, pretty nice/cool, with good music taste for the demos. The circuit is licensed from Berning so it has some standard there. TBD on parts used etc. But what I had was a pretty solid amp with very good sound. Now, that said....the prices have shot up WAY too much for my liking. And yes, having never worked with stats, there's reservations that are perfectly valid. At a lower price point, I think they'd be worth a listen. But not upwards of $7k.....1 point

Why do none of the experts with all their wood tools not live around me. I have projects, any of you thinking of transferring to lovely Illinois?1 point

A snippet of a synthwave song I'm working on. In my mind Robert Smith is singing. Almost everything is coming from the Deluge, except the arpeggio which is the Keystep controlling the Mono Station, going through a Zoom MS70-CDR pedal. VID_54180719_084755_359.mp41 point
