  1. Almost feels like I spent all this time, to build a pallet.

  2. finished today my cfa2, was a trouble free build beside that i like small case (think is a tetris disorder i caught in my teenage years ;-). once again, these trafo covers look nice but the shielding effect is near zero, to get ride of a small hum i needed to add some grain oriented bands. heatsinkt of the case seems a bit overdesingned, gets only a bit warm. offset without servos was surprising low at around 10-15mv, could use nice matched mje15030/15031 from my previous dynahi project. the amps sounds very nice, one of the few amps that are neural and speedy that i like, really a "wire with gain" type of desing. thanks a lot for the design kevin gilmore and all of you for the help from this forum :-).

  4. So I shifted the Teac into the main headphone system in place of the NAD M51: So now I can use my Two Little Bears (Passive XLR switchers) to shift between the Mytek or Teac as input and the GS-X, DHSA or BHse as output:

  5. Seeing as we cannot travel this year, it seemed right to use only local Bay Area booze and organic produce for Mattnog 2020. I also figured it couldn't hurt to use all the milk and cream and expand the recipe a bit (including another ⅓ cup of each booze and two more egg yolks, not pictured). We have a long quarantine winter to get through, after all! Before: After: You half-batchers are crazy. It lasts a long time and we're going to be stuck at home for the foreseeable! I ended up with a 1.25 batch so that socially distant gatherings can be warmed up...

  8. I found a Bank of Italy bank book behind the fireplace of an old Victorian in SF. I think it was about 100 years old. Gave it to Al and Claire. If memory serves, the guy had about $1,000 in his account. That would have been a nice chunk of change back then.

  13. Well Mr Giannini started off as Bank of Italy in San Francisco in 1904. So the only way to grow to be Bank of America is to not give customers deals, pay them next to nothing on their accounts while convincing them it's high yield and of course charging them loan shark rates of interest on their credit card balances.

  14. I'm still pissed that Bank of America took away my "Cash Maximizer" joint checking and savings accounts that had, for many years, a fixed interest rate of 10%. I got the account when I started practicing law and took full advantage of the interest rate until they retired that "product" and forced me into a new type of account.

  15. That's nuts. The Keystep is already a bargain, and still in production. I don't imagine anyone besides Uli ever looked at it and said "the world needs a cheaper knockoff of this" I hope they sell zero units, but I know they'll probably sell tons.

  16. In the 80's I worked for a large bank in mid-town Manhattan and remember hearing about these new bonds called "High Yield" bonds. Back then they were yielding around 15%. Today my daughter received this solicitation for a high yield account in the mail. What a difference forty years can make.

  17. Pretty much done with everything but staining, as it is too cold. Kasia did not like the box brace on the back so I have shorter corner braces on each corner. Hoping the 13 1.5x1.5 cross bars and the 4 14”ish 1.5x1.5 corner brace boards will be enough to keep it square.

  18. Lately the left channel humming has increased to become even more bloody annoying. But… today I cured it (pure luck - trial and error approach). I have two umbilicals between psu and amplifier. Both carrying 580V bias and then joining at the stax connector. So, I removed left 580V bias wire in amplifier and the hum disappeared. To my ears the amplifier is now dead silent.

  21. The thing I have learned working with a lasers is you need to treat it like a weapon: is it loaded/plugged in, is it safed/armed, is it pointed at the thing I am going to shoot and not at the things I do not want to shoot, am I wearing the safety gear, is everyone else safe or with gear on, do I know what I am doing? Only then, do you press the button. Shitty day out here, trying to motivate myself to head out to the garage and put my words into actions.

  22. I just completed it last week by setting it to ZF and 100ma bias ( +-20V rail). Still waiting the chassis and soft starter. Sounds better than my dynalo\hi with my HD800 and K1000.

  25. Running my CFA at 200mA bias in ZF mode, works perfectly but when I try to go over to SS mode it acts funny. Bias jumps up way high when only the SS jumpers are engaged, is this normal behaviour? Using the latest boards.

  26. RIP Maradona. One of the 20th century's most electric athletes. His highlights are as breathtaking today as they were back then. The goal of the century might also be the 20th century's best sports highlight. HBO's documentary on him from a year ago was great. https://www.hbo.com/documentaries/diego-maradona
