  1. The belt I ordered was too slick and just spun. But Marc sent me a VPI Aries II belt that he had on hand and it works great! Milo and I started on the new stand today. Should be a few more days on that.

  2. Jeff, the Purple Heart is really hard, and very prone to burning when cut and routed. Use a very sharp blade! As for me, got more work done on the Colossus stand.

  3. The last 20 minutes of Mama Mia Here we go again. Dear God this is horrible! I knew it would be bad, but I had no idea! I'm only watching because something is coming on that I want to see. Had I known how awful this would be, I'd have watched 20 minutes of something else.

  4. The round inlays on the top of the post are there for the isolation feet to register into. I still have a few stretchers to add to the stand base, and I think I'm going to use Golden shellac on the Maple. Probably polyurethane on the stained butcher block top.

  5. Also, though they gave me no fucking pencils this time.

  6. I have a Garrard 401. Stylus drag doesn't slow that sucker down. Oh - and a Thorens TD150II, and that is a pretty weak force unit. But I'm using that with a Shure V15IV with Jico stylus. Since that thing runs at 0.75g tracking, it is just fine. That feeds, via a phono stage, a BH original, with all the unobtainium silicon, and a pair of SR007. That is one of my wife-is-asleep headphone systems. Don't ask...

  10. Presumably, you guys are suggesting Baltic birch plywood, which certainly seems like a solid choice for the box itself and the shoe rack. You can also get quality plywood with even fancier wood faces depending the what you want for the finish. We used teak faced plywood for Stretch's bbq island but there is unfinished or prefinished maple and other options. Either way, you can use thin strips of matching hardwoods to trim the exposed plywood edges unless you like that look, and you can use solid harwood for the door on the microphone case.

  11. I'd say router, so that you can put a finished edge on any of the exposed pieces of wood. Which really means that you need both a router and a bunch of router bits. I'm with Naaman, baltic-birch.

  12. My opinionated counterpoint: Nooooo! Disney+ is the worst. It’s like porn in that you get tired of really quickly. Hell, the desertscape of Apple+ feels like it has more potential at this point. Hulu+ is for cordcutters, though is repositioning for their constant sale. They’re also the premiere distination for horrible Xmas movies (though Netflix is challenging). Also Fargo! HBOMax is, of course, solid and has supplemental content from Turner Classics and Studio Ghibli. Netflix and Amazon are admittedly racing to the bottom, though both countering in producing, or usually buying, decent original content. Criterion is Criterion, the best... that we all don’t watch enough of. Kanopy, if your local library supports it, is free and not far behind Criterion and Turner.

  13. Me also! I think Chris Rock really kicked some acting ass in the finale. That half smile and the twinkle in his eye and I was right there with him, bathing in the glow of the American Dream. Another triumph and high point for the small screen (great score by Russo-FOTM). Speaking of Jeff Russo, you might try CBS All Access for Star Trek Discovery/Piccard Dusty. That's next up in my show binges. I rotate my "extra's" , Netflix, HBO, Showtime, Hulu, Acorn, Prime/Masterpiece and now CBS, Disney, and Apple. It's only me, so there no conflict and I only keep one at a time for a couple of months before I cancel. There are networks that I only get for one or two shows and when I'm caught up,.. bye bye. One of these days I'm sure they'll find a way to put a wrench in my system.

  14. Going to try to make the hinged face out of strips this purple stuff. Maybe too heavy so may end up being the body.

  21. I'm not into Eurorack, but I did fool around with the one we had at college. You should check out VCV Rack. It's billed as a eurorack simulator. You can build and patch virtual modules which are designed by the guys that make the real modules. Lots of the modules are free and the paid ones are cheap (after all, they want you to buy the real things). Plenty of YT tutorial videos too. https://vcvrack.com/

  22. I soldered the surface mount components for a Universal Signal Isolator shield for the Arduino DUE. This will allow me to control my Buffalo DAC and add a TFT screen to it as well http://www.dimdim.gr/arduino/universal-signal-isolator-shield-for-the-arduino-due/

  26. As I continue to try to spend peoples money, should anyone's interest in mics be excited recently, looks like the Aston mics are on sale everywhere. Aston Stealth down to $279-299 and Aston Origin $299.

  27. Got the re-tipped Zu DL-103 back yesterday. Today I mounted the cartridge, set the tracking force, aligned the cartridge and set azimuth and VTA. The custom belt is due on Tuesday, so I'll check the sound then. My last pieces of wood for the new stand shipped today. should be here soon. It's all coming together.

  28. Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny A genius book. I get the feeling that books as disparate as Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos (and Ilium / Olympos, of course), Richard Morgan's Altered Carbon trilogy, Walter Jon Williams' Aristoi, and even David Brin's Kiln People (and so many more), were directly inspired by Lord of Light.
