  1. This thread has gone far too quiet. I converted the Genius to 27.5 mode for the winter so I could run as fat a tire as possible. I'm currently testing a pair of 45NRTH Wraithchild studded 27.5x3.0 tires. Today's ride, before the impending Christmas monsoon, was a success. Now to decide if dropping 4 bills on tires is worth it.

  2. Have had a 10 lb rib roast in the smoker at 150 for 5-1/2 hours so far. Will pull at 125-ish, rest a 1/2 hour then nuke in the big gas grill for a few minutes at 750+ to get a nice crust.

  5. With that comma in there, it seems you are pointing out to Ric that you are wishing Jesus a happy birthday. Anyway, happy birthday Ric! Hope you get to watch all the movies your heart desires today. Cheers!

  6. Steve, you're 100% right on what cycling means to me. The "worth it" aspect is that snow and winter riding has been so limited for the last few years that having $400 tires sitting around is a tough sell to the other half. I'll probably do it anyway, but the struggle currently is trying to get her to accept the proper solution is actually another bike to run the aforementioned seriously expensive tires which makes the solution pretty effing d-_-b. Just haven't found the right steel or carbon hardtail yet.

  8. πŸ˜‚ - oh yee of little faith, I'm already at the midfield solution. The bike normally runs 29ers (max width 2.6) and is fully capable of running 27.5s (max width 2.8) so this fall I bought a set of nice 27.5 rims for this express purpose. Once I did that I moved to phase two, why not just buy another bike to save the hassle of swapping wheels? And I solved the cassette problem by having a spare one around. I am, if nothing else, pretty adept at solving problems through acquisition.

  9. Shigeru Umebayashi - 2046 I happen to have a rip of the CD. Lovely music. I should find and watch the film. Amazon has it available on streaming but not for me

  12. Went shopping (ran out of paper towels the night before we are doing a "nacho bar" for Satanmas dinner. No bueno. Realized I wanted to cook for the first time in months, so I was looking for things to do for breakfast in the morning. Fucking place sold out of biscuits. I bet Colin went and bought them all; that bastard. But 3 pounds of meat, 18 eggs, multiple pounds of cheese (for variety, probably) and a bunch of tortillas means some possibly amazing breakfast burritos. Looking forrward to it! (Still, though... dammit, Colin! @ biscuit dearth.)

  13. Four dollars seems reasonable to me. Seriously though, you're the only one that can answer that, but it seems to me that biking gives you a lot of pleasure, and probably a lot of time to get other things off of your mind. What's that worth?

  14. Made our way up to Maine, last trip of the year before we close our condo down. My son and his girlfriend spent over a week up here. After COVID restrictions at school, and then not co-mingling once they got home, it was a great break for them. Time together/alone, very little to do. Was happy they got that time. Stopped at one of Maine's more famous lighthouses on the way up, Nubble. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

  16. Another crazy deal at Adorama for some Etymoticsβ€”the ER2SEs are $59: https://www.adorama.com/etyer2se.html?emailprice=t&sterm&br=1 I own these and the ER4XRs and while I like the ER4XRs a little better, the ER2SEs are damn good, and at this price they're a ridiculous value.

  28. 1) You guys are really making me want to get my bike out; been too long. 27.5x3 for me and x2.8 on Xavier's. 2) Nate, if you didn't know, this is d-_-b. The only thing to decide is black wall or tan wall.

  29. Haven't played it yet but I've had Brigador on my Steam wishlist. Looks pretty good from the little I've seen. I copped it on GOG, but plan to buy it on Steam if I ever actually get around to playing it. My backlog is already a mile long though and I'm only halfway through my second (of three, for now) playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077.

  31. 2046, which takes place almost entirely on future Xmases, a film and soundtrack already nearly lost/out of distribution. Play this time of the year as I have the CD. Edit: Looks like some streaming services, like Spotify and Deezer, have recreated the soundtrack, though not always the right versions of songs or all tracks.

  32. Using the VPI 16.5 cleaner that Al graciously gave me on extended loan for the first time. There's something so satisfying when you hit the vacuum switch and the wand sucks down and dries the album. This is the first automatic record cleaner I've ever used. I'm hooked.

  33. A "local" Christmas Carol concert reccomended by Joanne's sister (in Guildford UK) "If anyone would like to hear some of the best singing of Christmas carols and unbelievably they are local follow this You Tube link: https://youtu.be/-4ouLNSQufU Peter White heads this fabulous coral group, he was The Royal Grammar School's head of music until recently and is also a Guildown neighbour. Every year at Christmas they perform at St Martha's, in my opinion in a 'normal' year, the best Christmas carol concert you could go to!!! πŸŽ„β›„πŸŽ… "

  35. Nice lamp, Doug. Me: I've got two nephews that are budding YouTubers so for Christmas we made them fake Creator Awards for them. I've got three coats of gold paint on them and they look acceptably funny. Here's what they looked like unfinished.
