  1. I've been screwing around with the laser lately, mostly trying to figure out how to get the damn thing to cut and engrave. I'd had the engraving part sorted for a while and finally had a break though today with cutting. For the inaugural project I decided to do something that popped into my head while listening to RTJ the other day. It'll end up being a thank-you gift for the friend that introduced them to me back in the spring. Each of those is about 2-1/2" long and the source file was custom designed by me in CAD based off of the cover of RTJ4. It's mirrored 🤦‍♂️ because the alb

  4. I thought my comment was pretty benign, Gene. This isn't really a headphone forum. Most members have been here more than a decade, date back to the earliest days of Headwize, and are friends in real life, despite the thousands of miles, oceans, continents and everything else in between. Are we occasionally rude? Yes. Were we particularly rude here? No. If you'd read around a bit even just in this forum you'd have seen that the top 10 threads are so are either Stax related or about boutique niche headphones. So no, you posting a review of your new AKG K240s was unlikely to generate any sort of

  5. So to start the new year off I went for a morning chilly bike ride. Since I am really out of shape I struggled as we climbed a mild 8% hill. I noticed a group of people standing outside a building waiting for something and then noticed more people milling around in their parking lot as I slowly passed by struggling with the climb. As I passed the group of perhaps 30-40 people I noticed the sign..."COVID Testing Clinic" Shit fire, I just rode past a group of 30+people all who have or suspect they have COVID. I blame Brent.

  15. This guy has the same era/model Aries that I have. From this picture at least, he's done the same thing I have and discarded the extra pulley weight/flywheel on the motor and the record weight/clamp. I find the sound is more open and lively without a clamp. It's possible that the frequency graphs are a little flatter (fewer high mid spikes?) but my main speaker system is for pure pleasure and accuracy be damned. Plus, my Home Studio rig is the one that needs to be flat.

  17. First impressions of linear power supply for the GL MkII: Compared to the stock switcher the LPS removes any edge or sibilance from the highs and makes the sound smoother, less grainy, and more effortless. The stock Glite was terrific with the HD650 but was a bit edgy with the Utopia, but with the LPS the Utopia now sounds much smoother. I think the Glite w/LPS and HD650 pairing is a stellar deal. The amp opens up the HD650's soundstage and improves its imaging, getting rid of the 3-blob effect. It also clears up congestion in the lower midrange and tightens up the bass. Just a very

  22. Hello all! I am an engineer and a big fan of perfect audio, especially on my headphones. Some time ago, I bought the AKG k612 headphones and I love them. Perfect and clean audio, very open scene and the design! Worth every $ I spent on it. However, the one problem I found is that I am concerned about the headbands distortion, when not using it and hanging on headphone hanger. That's why (as an engineer) I started thinking of the solution, how to store my k612 and be calm about headbands. I've made my headphone stand (so I don't need to hang k612) and I want to share it with the world. However

  28. I have two blue hawaii se (golden reference hv and lv psus) , two joamat mini t2 (with golden reference hv and lv psus) and a diy t2. I only have experience with them using sr007 mk2 earspeakers. The hawaii is very good, far far far better than the stax srm006 or anything modern stax sells. The mini t2 is better still improving bass, micro dynamics and detail. The diy t2 is fantastic its takes the mini t2 strength and improves on it and adds better macro dynamics, even better bass and detail. If you can get any stax amp get the diy t2. As far as I can tell the sr007 needs as much drive as poss

  30. Sorry for the oversharing, not looking for sympathy, but stop reading if "Dusty oversharing" might offend you. I started the year by puking my guts out. I think it was food poisoning, but I didn't eat anything out of the ordinary -- just my usual goulash, black bean noodles, wine. Earlier I had a turkey, jalapeno, plant-based-cheese, and bread sandwich, with a couple Grillo's Pickles spears -- all things I've had before. I think it was the wine, but it didn't taste off. That should speak to how bad my palate is. So I had some bread, rice noodles and tea yesterday, and I'm feeling ~91%
