Hmm. I don't know how sensible it is to put a light behind a pair of ML's. I know from bitter experience how fragile that curved electrostatic driver is. Mine disconnected themselves just sitting there. I repaired them by putting small discs of conductive foam through the holes at one side in the front cover, then a thin wire contacting the foam, then Kapton tape. The wire went inside and was hard wired into the energizing transformer. They were out of guarantee, and there was no way I was going to pay for a new set of panels so I got creative. I was not impressed with their reliability, candidly. Sounded great when they were working though. All the repair was behind the wooden trim strips, and so was invisible.3 points

The 10M90S/DN2540 cascode combination makes a very good constant current source for a simple and easy to build circuit. One drawback is that the current setting resistor can be quite variable due to the variability in the DN2540 from sample to sample, so a bit of experimentation is necessary. The original SRX Plus circuit used a separate -18-24V supply constant current source (CCS) on the tail of the input diff amp, but I realized that there was no need for a separate supply, since the this could be derived from the B- supply by using a 220k dropping resistor, which was added to the schematic. This eliminates the need for a separate -18-24v supply and also balances out the B+ and B- currents.1 point

The $800 is for the entire motor pod, which includes the massive stainless steel milled enclosure. You can definitely ask VPI about a warrantee replacement. They are very approachable and helpful. Say hi to Tara and the gang for me - they are busy but willing to help. I think it’s reasonable to start here. That project won’t be very cost effective - the 24V Anaheim motor will run around the same price shipped - say $100. The stuffed boards, will run around $200 for the two and then you have casing and the bits for the tach (optional) - maybe $100. It comes in lower than what SOTA is asking, but obviously more than replacing the motor.1 point

It's finished! Colossus is back in action, and better than ever. I certainly spent more time tweaking this time around. I think it paid off. I have the Hudson HI-FI Bigfeet between the stand base and top, then new isolation feet on the Colossus and I added more shot inside the plinth. It's sounding really full with great bass. Lots more listening to do!1 point

This one hurts, though he’s discussed this day often. Michael Apted, 1941-2021, ‘visionary’ director of Up series dies. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2021/jan/09/michael-apted-1941-2021-tributes-paid-to-visionary-director-of-up-series?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other0 points
