  6. Yes, not cheap, but considering it is a matched quad, approx. $11@. And generally unobtanium. The diyaudio store charges $39 for a similar matched quad of the Linear Systems devices (2 N, 2 P).

  7. I received my yokes last weekend and they were a successful first test, but I have to revise them. I made them too flimsy. I ordered new ones that are nearly twice as thick and twice as wide, with generous fillets where they won't interfere with the cups. They were printed out of nylon, then vapor polished. That said, the result was extremely comfortable and I get a great seal with the occasional stax fart. Since the stops don't prevent rotation, I could bob my head to the music without the cups squeaking or groaning. That still would happen if the cable pulls on the cups. I'm sharing a picture of what they look like now in comparison to the originals. I'm also showing all the hardware Stax uses to connect the current yokes. It's obvious they were over designed - the yokes and cups free swing around the metal sleeves no matter how much you torque the screws. My only explanation for the stops is that Stax felt having the cups free swing, would look flimsy from a quality standpoint.

  8. Digital-First Retail Limited owns Maplin. the company did not exist prior to 29 June 2018... and has changed the location of its registered office no less than 4 times since then... The original director of the company resigned 6 oct 2020. The accounts only show 2 employees ... so im guessing its a shell company. The accounts is interesting section 476 means no requirement for external audit of accounts, section 477 companies act 2006 exemption from audit and exemption from publishing a full statement.... so the entire financial statement is simply one line current assets, one line creditors amount due and one line net assets. current director is director of 1 other company and previous director of another - all from the same address.

  9. We had the same demise of Maplin - a similar sort of thing in the UK to Fry's. Back 25 years or so back, they stocked audio parts like Elna Cerafine capacitors, and power drivers from Eminence. I know because I bought both from there because it was to go to place for Cerafine, and I built a 15" bass cabinet for my son using an Eminence driver, both bought over the counter. Then they made the mistake of dumbing down. So if you wanted a remote control gizmo, or a drone, or some rubbish audio tat that became the place of choice. It ended up folding in 2018 after it had changed hands four or five times. But oddly enough it has been relaunched entirely on a mail order business, mainly selling tat https://www.maplin.co.uk/ . I have no idea who owns the brand name now.

  10. I usually use Modu boxes. They are expensive (I live outside the continent) but they do the job. That heatsink is overkill for a single CFA. Even for 2 CFA's they are still a bit oversized (BIAS 190mA). 24vDC power supply. Use OPA445.

  15. Your BOM has 1k specified but I can't find that anywhere in the schematic. Is the 1k necessary? Edit: here's the mouser BoMs for the CFA2 and GRLV I created: CFA2 GRLV (30v) I think they're both correct but if there are any mistakes please let me know...

  16. Yesterday I received a Proxxon 28566 base for mini tool (I normally use a dremel 4000 and a Bosch GRO12v-35) ). I thought it was better than the Dremel base, in fact Proxxon uses better materials and has a reputation for making high quality mini tools, but I was disappointed. Although the materials are much better than the Dremel (It´s made of aluminum and steel and Dremel use plastic), the guides are "crooked", so that when lowering and raising the tool, it is locked in any position. I have tried unscrewing the guides, but have not gotten a proper tool movement. I'm going to see how to modify it. 🙄
